anyone know an entomologist?

last week when i was leaving the Ruta Maya open mic i passed a light covered in insects (like they do) and, being me, i stopped to examine them. it was mostly small gnat-like flies, small moths, and lacewings, but there was this one moth in particular that was really really peculiar. as you can see in the picture below, coming off of the tip of its abdomen was a cluster of moving tentacle/hair type things!! does anyone know what that crazy moth was??

lately i’ve been messing around on a keyboard and it’s been really awesome! using that as a medium instead of guitar has produced some very different feeling melodies. it’s also fun to play with all of the silly settings. i wrote a song called “stars falling down” and the setting i had the keyboard on is basically a voice singing “doo doo doo” instead of a piano sound. it’s pretty funny sounding, but i’m feeling really good about the song.

if you want to try something yummy, you should drizzle some olive oil on kale, salt it slightly, and roast it briefly. mmm!! or do that to broccoli. or squash. goodness i love veggies.

oh, titles…

when i was little i used to play a game with my little sister where i’d ask her to make up a song title and then i would proceed to sing that song on the spot. i remember most of them having to do with pretty things and rainbows. it was just the most exciting and fun thing for me. nowadays i feel at a loss for titles, or as if i can never find the perfect title for a song (or blog post, for that matter). perhaps it’s because i always made emi handle that end…

maybe the next song i write will be called “i found a shiny rock behind a rainbow”.

behind a magic rainbow
is a place so hard to find
it’s hidden behind flowers
and the map is in my mind

today i came across it
quite by accident indeed
but i am forever grateful
it had everything i need!

behind my special rainbow i found treats of every kind
candies, toys and trinkets and a bottle full of time
behind my special rainbow i found treats of every kind
i found a shiny rock there and i gladly made it mine.

yup… i’d imagine that’s about how one of my old songs would go.

actually, the songs i WROTE varied quite a bit from the ones i sang improv-style. some of my first hits include, “Teeny Bear Goes Sailing On The Lake,” “Oh, The Hummingbird,” and “Do I Know You?”. perhaps someday i’ll bring one of these back. heh…

in other news, i still miss new zealand. oh, if some of the chill of dunedin could grace us here in central texas….
i do hope that i have some excuse to go back someday. many times in the past week i’ve been reminded of nz and all the lovely places and people there… sigh.

i wrote a new song last week. i am getting super pumped for my next album. don’t know when that will happen, but i have so much material that i am so excited about now. i really want to make this next cd amazing.

this is what singing in texas looks like:

now i should go do something productive. like sleep.

oh and re: “ours to keep,” i’m not sure when it will be up on itunes… but SOMEDAY it will. i’ll try to do what i can to expedite that process.
