don’t forget

“don’t forget” demi lovato cover

so hello everyone!

i have to say, seeing so many people emerge out of lurk-dom last week to put in their two-cents about which songs to record… that was pretty awesome. thank you so so much for all of your suggestions. i’ve got a really good idea about what all will go on now! but we’ll try to keep some of it a secret… heh.

you know what’d be fun? if i could do roll call like the good ol’ days in elementary school.
angloman?
*here*
arch?
*here*
code2mind?
*here*
dro?
*here*
finnfann?
*here*
so on and so forth, and then we could feel like a big happy family. or big happy homeroom class…
ok, so maybe there’s no point to that except me getting to play teacher for a day, but that’d be fun. :)

tonight i’m going to snuggle up in bed and watch heima.

today i had a peppermint mocha and it was soooo yummy and holiday-y.

um, i like you.

all for now,
me.

oovret: Week 28

Are any other musicians joining you and Rich in the studio?
yes! so far…
drummer/percussionist- quinn, who plays with tracy chapman, among other artists
violinist/viola player- i’ll get back you on that one
*hopefully* cello- keith tutt II (if his schedule permits)
What is your favorite iPhone application?
i unfortunately don’t get around to playing with any of them… :( i did have fun popping bubbles for about a day though.
Who is your favorite Muppet?
i think muppets scare me, but probably kermit.
Do you subscribe to any podcasts?
i used to– a bunch of japanese ones and then some other interesting things, but i find i don’t have much time to listen to them anymore. sad :(
Do you really think you’re a bad person? Because I’m pretty sure you’re not all bad.
i could be better :)

@confused newbie
once upon a time a long time ago i did an interview with this website called tervoo.com where people voted on which questions they wanted answered. then one day oovret (tervoo backwards…) appeared in the blog with a set of his/her own questions. they were so organized and neat that i decided i should go ahead and answer then. the next week oovret was back with more questions. since then, oovret has become a staple in the blogs… oovret could be considered the official question asker of the blog, if you will. haha.

Very strong cover. I´ve never heard the song before, so I can´t compare it with the original… but you sure made it sound good!

Have fun in the studio, you´ll make us all proud!

I’m in the same boat as confused newbie. I actually only joined this blog last week. This place must’ve been hectic during the Crash The Super Bowl thing.

I’m such a loser, I thought oovret was Kina’s alter ego. I thought it was just Kina explaining some FAQs on here ;)

Great questions, oovret. And thanks for the explanation, Kina.

Ok, I don’t mean that, but humph, why can’t my top 5 be the top 3? Why can’t I bend people and reality to my will? Why not Kina? Why not?

I like this song. I feel as if I could’ve written it, which is compliment*, insult*, and emo-ish navel gazing all rolled into one.

@J.C.

Do you mean to say that field trips weren’t just something made up to try to make classes behave better till the date arrived but only reproachful chastisements showed up as usual to add on to the others given out when being told in advance that yet again there would be no trip? My Mom only packed me off, as it was always a certainty that it would be an eat at school day!

@FinnFan

Pss, psst – pause today’s video at 5min 17secs and you won’t need much of an imagination! OMG, I wonder if this teacher metes out physical punishments? As cripes, and maybe even crikey, can that bone deep stuff leave you feeling raw for a while!

@Kina

Sorry if I spoke out of turn or inappropriately in class Miss Grannis. Please forgive and excuse me as the bell just rang and I’ve detentions to sort out as to whose takes presedence when double booked and which also extends into the time zone of one set by the Headmaster!

Ugh, I remember trying to take roll in a class with 1st graders . . .

Half of them completely missed their name so I’d have way too many kids marked absent. I just started lining them up along a wall, and having them go to their desk when their name was called. That way it was easy to see who was ‘left over’. The kids liked it because they got to make their ‘grand entrance’.

@Sir/shir

Lol, then you could continue to watch over Miss Grannis while she’s gaining experience! What capacity would you prefer to be? Maybe the Assesor for the Trainee Teacher for a change so that you don’t have responsability regarding pupils or perhaps you’d like to up your power status to being the Head who sits in from time to time? Didn’t Miss Grannis do well in telling the oovret story to the confused newbie?

Oh hang on, this would probably be classed as a Private School and as Kina owns the premises, plus with already having gained a degree, she would probably have already bagged the ever so nice Headmistress position to remain dominant within this environment and marshalled in Misa to take the enforcer position of being her Deputy with Emi on board as the Teacher that everybody <3’s, so, with such a small pupil body, I’m not so sure there’s a position for you to hold after all, unless you strike it lucky and Miss Grannis would rather take the more hands on positions of Music and PE Teacher;)) OMG, thinking about it, the site may already be running along these lines already!

iheartgrannises – wow, found this on youtube and just want to say what an emotional video…watching all the tears, hugs, smiles as well as the clips of the sisters dancing around when they were young. Two best parts were:

dad holding back the tears as he stood and watched the three sisters hug after Kina was announced the winner

AND

ending where Kina is talking on the phone and the shot pans away and zooms in on a picture of her parents

well done!

@Mama G – Thank you for that link, I hadn´t seen it before. I knew most of what was in it, but it was nice to read how everything happened from her own point of view. I hate it that I wasn´t around during the Superbowl contest, it must have been a huge experience for her fans, too. And I´m beginning to understand that Kina is not only a talented musician, but she has an innate understanding of marketing also… Actually I´m sorry for the other contestants in that competition. She actually had a Time Capsule, but the thing flipped out and lost all her data. Luckily she just bought an external drive, so there’ll be no more of that nonsense.

sabafa said on...

November 12, 2008

@MamaG

Thanks for the link, I hadn’t come across it either = it would be good if you bombarded us with links each bla(h)g so that we have less chance of missing out, perhaps in an indexed format that you could carry over each time for your own ease and having the new ones just being added onto as they occur – twould be a cool feature/resource to have on tap as whatever goes on my computer is soon lost in it’s meltdowns and perhaps others have the occasional problem too, like Kina did this week! Also, maybe you could coax Kina into applying something relating to her making this CD into this Sundance Comp:-

http://www.youtube.com/projectdirect

:)

sabafa said on...

November 12, 2008

@Misa

Externals aren’t infallible! Sometimes access to stuff is no longer allowed when you need it, root certificate changes, etc, and in fact it can get as bad as what’s recently happened to my 500gb one which no longer has a drive letter/drivers/info anymore – oh aren’t security providers system backups great = not a single one has ever worked for me, against seems easier for them to manage though:(

thuff7 said on...

November 12, 2008

@arch – I saw that video before but didn’t hit the “more info” link. Now I see your name there. Excellent tribute, and for us Kin00bs, it was the next best thing to being there. And very, very touching.

@Mama G – Thanks for the link! At some point, we’d love to hear an interview of you and Dr. G! Bet you have some great stories . . .

@FinnFann – So right. But I’m not buying into the notion this is just a marketing tool. I mean it’s the right thing to do and brilliant. And done soooo well. But there is something very real about Kina and how she interacts her fans. And I have proof b/c I saw the cell phone video on YouTube of her doing “Message” live at Hotel Cafe. That was real. Usually, the audience is moved to tears, not so often the performer! Jeez. I soooo wish I was there!

@Kina – AP Calc? megaprops! (I mentor AP Science and Tech students at George Mason U and they are awesome – and now Kin00bs). But then I knew you had a great education (“I bruise easily” not “I bruise easy”). <3

@misa – magna from D in NH? Whoa! My heroine!

FinnFan said on...

November 12, 2008

@thuff7 – Agreed. I was referring to the work she did with the competition. She had a great song, but she didn´t leave anything by chance. She worked hard and used her (and her sisters´) imagination brilliantly. Success in any business doesn´t come from having a great product alone, you must also have good marketing. And good marketing doesn´t mean faking it. It´s about knowing who you are and telling that to your audience.

thuff7 said on...

November 12, 2008

@FinnFan – absolutely. You have to admire their savvy. These are very intelligent women! Hmmm. Beauty, charm, talent, talent and more talent *and* intellect. What’s not to love? It’s like watching a great movie unfold with the most amazing soundtrack!

confused newbie said on...

November 12, 2008

so question…

any of you worried that when she becomes real famous, she may not have time to post youtube videos, meet you at starbucks, twitter and blog with you…the very thing we love about kina in the first place – interacting and keeping it real with her fans.

Mama G said on...

November 12, 2008

@Confused: Undoubtedly she will lose her ability to spend lots of time interacting with fans, but it’s a double-edged sword: if she becomes successful enough to continue making/selling music (hopefully without having to get that proverbial “day job”), she will take on more activities that will occupy her time, BUT! I’m confident that she will never abandon her fans completely because she loves the interaction. All of your attention and communication is the reason she finds herself in this fortunate position and she knows/appreciates it!

@Misa:
Was it at all related to the fact that Time Machine uses disc images on network drives (which of course Time Capsule is)? That’s what scared me off of the product. I’ve lost data due to corrupt disc images that Disk Utility can’t fix. Anyway, glad to hear she’s got an external drive. Those seem to be the safest bet with Time Machine.

confused newbie said on...

November 12, 2008

I think the sisters were just looking to get the most votes in the least amount of time that they had. Sure, it was a smart move to write a catchy song and post it on Digg and to perform every day on youtube but you know what…if Message From Your Heart is not the great song that it is, I don’t think she would have gotten the votes no matter what they did. She won because of the song, her voice, and because she let her personality shine through in her videos. I don’t think it was as planned as some might think. She really was just being herself and everyone gravitated to that (plus it didn’t hurt that she is a cute halfy japanese girl!).

sabafa said on...

November 12, 2008

@ confused newbie

I understand your concerns, but if, like myself, you already don’t:-

twitter,
receive replies of any kind,
get shoutouts,
have the opportunity to meet in whatever capacity,

Kina, then what’s to lose?

There could actually be gains! For example, she might manage to haul a tour over to a country close enough to be able to view her on a large screen or two alongside the stage instead (haha – I laugh, but that might be as good as it gets in reality) but on the other hand as she is frugal, and would probably be doing the the smaller venues really, she may well be putting the occasional shout out for somewhere to kip like other up and comers have been known to do, thus at least gaining at least one fan/set of mates to turn up to witness the gig and do the local club rounds with, or similarly require some fan to tour with for photo or video gathering, possibly done through a competition, etc, etc and as for maintaining blahg postings, unless she’s doing the driving, she’ll have plenty of time to twiddle her fingers across a notebook to divulge what she likes if she cares to do so, which of course means fan base growth, and probably a lengthening list of lucky, forever contented but still broken hearted helpful fans along the way, so maybe joining twitter would be a good idea for all fans, as I’m pretty sure that peeps within 50miles of let’s say Kina’s location get to show up on them, but as I don’t twitter, you’d best check that out if your interested in something so stalkerishly dangerous;)

confused newbie said on...

November 12, 2008

I don’t twitter either (and don’t plan to) but I would miss the weekly youtube videos…and she has replied kindly to my emails. I don’t think Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson would do that.

As for large venues, of course it would be great for her…would mean she’s made it…but you know what, the small venues are more intimate. Plus, I would hate to see her being hounded by the paparazzi some day. Price of fame I tell ya.

Good to hear of more that are blessed by the Kina contacts like other fans here are, in case I have more videos than yourselves, I’ll surrender them to you through this playlist, I suggest that you save them to your own playlist names fairly smartish if you don’t want to spend forever seeking them out:-

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=BDA8FA4D66147360

It may well be less complete than ones I’ve had in former YouTube accounts, but there’s been too many ill health/ill computer stuff situations combined throughout this year for me to have actually been bothered to bother with things for a good while now, but you may find something you havent got that you’ll like – you’ll most likely find Trish and Gordon to be really cool, so don’t forget to honour/heart them:)

Good if ur: dreaming pretty things lovely things *_*
Not so good if ur: dreaming about monsters and the like :-o

so i am here in Fort Collins, and my friend bought the movie “once” and we watched the part in the movie where they sing “falling slowly” and i never watched the movie before but i recognized the song! and they were talking about how they loved it.

and then i showed them kina’s cover on the internet and they LOVED her cover. kina street team is in my blood lol

saying the word “blood” sounds weird LOL

also, i tried to email kina a picture i took on my phone but i dont think it worked. at a sports store here in Fort Collins, I saw an amazing thing, and i took a picture of it with my iphone. (i was going to write what i saw, but i ended up not because i decided i will buy it and send it to kina for her next PO BOX video awwww) LOL

anyways, i will send it to kina, but i want mama g to wear it hahaha =)

love always,
meeks

@Mama G

Thanks for posting the extra links, and, my oh my, do you still have a healthy dose of the determined Mom gene;) I suspect that many a fan – as I have – would have given up, but, it is definitely annoying to later find that a posting left safely in the hands of the moderator does not actually make it through when there shouldn’t have been any problem! Which makes me wonder whether there may be dismayed non-posters that have given up trying to post and even perhaps given up coming to the site as a result! I note that the system returned back to my normal non-editing of comments status straight after reporting its change to Misa, so the system is pretty good overall but requires perhaps too much patience and can throw the flow of topic posts out of sync somewhat, which most likely renders some almost doa and buried without a plot number to aid visitation! Maybe this could be rectified through post ticketing, so that although posts may be out of sequence on site, a visitor could mooch about the page to follow the correct number flow, therefore keeping to time and possibly helpful topic flow/digression should they wish to.

@Kina

In case you ever wondered why I didn’t have your videos within my favourites this time around, it is because your videos held the top slot on my page whenever I was allowed to set it up that way and that I would have had everyone of them in there like in my previous channels, but at the moment I’m too miffed to even keep you as a friend or stay subscribed! Please try and remember to not neglect your original fanbase in the servicing of newer, nor show favour for either, so that your efforts do not falter/stall! I still feel that the “all for one and one for all” maxim is still a pretty good guide for here, and as you might expect, I still wish you the very best(o:}

@Mama G – Glad you hung in there getting that link for us. Thanx!
So cool. Great sound with the full band. It took me a couple double takes to figure out the reverse video!

holy cow, all of mama g’s posts came in…haha!

@mama g

i will take your word that kina will never forget her loyals fans because moms are always right!

some good news – i finished my first marathon today (in a round about way). kina’s determination and inspiration leading up to her marathon got me so motivated that i decided to run a marathon in honour of kina and mama g. so over the last three weeks, i’ve been running 3.12 miles (5km) a day, 3 days/week during my lunch at work. in total, i ran 28.08 miles (45km), just a little more than a regular marathon. i plan on continuing my lunch time runs as i have been feeling better than ever! so kina…first one was for you and your mom, thanks for your inspiration! perhaps in the near future, i can do a real one.

*JUST DID IT*

Just found your music for the first time. I live in SW China so it’s difficult to find good music… well atleast in English! Shared your youtube stuff with my wife (who is Chinese)… we both really loved it!
Thanks for a little cultural twist to our current musical list! Good to hear something new!

just saying because my idol growing up, Janet Jackson, did it and i know many other artists that did it (e.g. the roots) and it was a pleasant surprise…
=)

@Mama G

Lip SyncX( Some musicians have long running probs like this, I came across one just last week, but can’t remember who it involved though=DOH! Far worse can happen like with Jasmine, sorry misscupcake1, she’s a bit shy/private really/doesn’t like prying/being told what to do/type thing as Kina would add on, and she’s coping with a major creep, hang on I’ll get a link – just don’t friend her as the creep causes trouble to her friends too and also opens up new accounts to do so when shut down, etc:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rpXDYF6SIo

shame this sort of stuff goes on at all, but especially to what seems to be a really nice sort if this is anything to go by:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZLkA1biFFM

It’s just a nasty version of what can actually get far worse, so be prepared just in case, as I saw a comment here – I think it was this month – that sort of implied trouble ahead and maybe had mentioned something like once his mates find out, but maybe it was just before then and just someone joking due to it being All Hallows, but all sorts of computer nasties can be left through a link/mail/image/etc, but at least there’s Misa/others to stop or cure things hey:)
