sleepy.

hello all!

i REALLY love the sound of birds chirping in the morning. it reminds me of childhood for some reason… maybe because in college i slept past when birds are chirping. it just makes everything feel clean and new and happy.

lately, i really want to hold a bird. perhaps i should schedule in a trip to the pet store into the near future. or just go around and try to catch all the sparrows in my backyard.

hmmm. naps always sound so lovely.

xo.

oovret: Week 45

What is your favorite type of Tim Tam to slam?
perhaps original.
When playing hide and seek, where was your favorite place to hide?
on a shelf in the linen closet.
How did the “rice cooker bread” turn out?
it was amazing! i made honey wheat bread. it turned out pretty dense but super moist… quite delicious. can’t wait to try out more crazy breads.
Do you enjoy listening to “An Horse”?
haven’t heard of them! i’ll check them out.
What is this I hear about an in-person interview and sushi dinner?
oh?

@Mariell
thanks so much! hope to see you in norway someday :)
@Matt
YES! i do have plans to tour in the UK. they haven’t been made…. but they exist.
@blahblahblah
looking forward to saying hi in seattle!

I haven’t watched the video yet (youtube seems to have something against me today), but your need to hold a bird reminded me of when I was in Paris and my brother caught one of the moocher pigeons behind Notre Dame Cathederal. I think I have a picture of it somewhere…

Woo An Horse!!

Sweet! I’ve been waiting for you to do a Beatles cover. I don’t get that certain sad-melancholy feeling from this version but whatever, it’s still wonderful. You and David made a great rendition. Anyway, hope you keep sharing your music. And thanks =)

THANK YOU so much! Beautiful!
I sang along to “Yesterday” with Paul McCartney at his show few months back. Felt awesome. & you just brought back all these memories…
I’d trade that for memories of singing along to YOUR songs @ YOUR show. Hopefully soon :)
P.S. David’s pretty good.

You know, according to Guinness, “Yesterday” is the most covered song in history. They say there are ~3000 recorded covers of it.

At cover number ~3001, this has got to be one of the best :)

Kina! When I first heard you singing a Beatles song, it reminded me of the jam sessions we used to have in high school, and how we all were so impressed with your harmonies. Fun times. :) Hope you’re well!

When I was in paris we went to that cathedral and it was so cute with all the sparrows filling the bushes and hopping onto your arm if you were holding bread. It was like a scene from a movie–a dad and his young daughter were feeding the sparrows, and I was watching and smiling, and she came up to me and gave me some bread so I could hold the birds, too. I got to stand there with an arm full of sparrows for a little bit but then some guy with a giant camera took a picture (in broad daylight!) and the massive flash went off and ALL the birds (it was a massive flock) instantly flew up and away. All the little kids were so sad, and the guy was SO embarrassed. EVERYone in the crowd was glaring at him.

Lucky you having David Choi by your side. Not that you need him to sound amazing.
You both do indiviually!

Anyway, I was gonna ask two questions.

1) When is your CD coming out? (I need to save up money ^w^)

2) When will you make a Kinablog on youtube?:D To update us and all. :)

Take care, lovely! :]

Yesterday qu’elle belle chanson des Beatles ! en plus jouer par Kina : parfait (français ^^)

Yesterday, beautiful Beatles’s song ! sung by you and played by David (great guitarist) !!!

Sorry about my English.
To finnish, I have a question :

Can I buy one of your tee-shirt ? I’m living in “France” so I don’t know if they can come to here.

Thanks for your answer (on my mail, please ^^) and congratulations !

I have a completely random question: I was reading on your blog that you did the Nike Half in SF last year. I’m signed up to run this October and wanted to know if you could tell me about the course or offer any helpful hints? I also wanted to know if the bibs for the half and the full are the same color or if they separated you from the full runners? I want to run the full with my friends but don’t care about getting an official time but I don’t want to get in trouble :)

Any info you have would be helpful. Thanks,
Beth

oh, boy! this is the best song ever written (i know, i know, IMHO). But I was lucky enough to see Sir Paul perform it live on his Wings over America tour (plz don’t look up the date!). Just a man, a guitar and a single spotlight. So it has extra-special meaning for me!

Kina’s amazing voice and a superb guitar rendition by David still gives the same goosebumps it did all those many years ago! Thanks so much! Keep covering the Beatles b/c you do them so very well!

Kina!

In my boredom and procrastination on my senior thesis, I decided to browse through old blog posts. I have come tonight to solve the Mystery of the Silos! If you don’t remember your old post (I wouldn’t blame you :) I found it here: http://www.kinagrannis.com/blog/2006/11/12/weekend-in-iowa/

Being from corn country myself, I feel particularly attached to this issue :) After a short amount of research/remember my childhood drives through the countryside, I have reached this conclusion:
-Small grain silo’s used to be filled using big, inclined conveyor belts that would drop the grain in the top. The new, bigger silo’s make this impractical and unsafe.
-Some farmers use a blower system to send it into the silo, but the force would crack the grain, which is apparently bad.
-This leaves vertical elevator systems as the best alternative. Most are giant bucket elevators that keep dropping loads of grain into the silo.

In conclusion, please please please pardon my random throwback to a blog post from 2+ years ago. I really needed a distraction :) But in the end, I guess silo’s are pretty interesting. I hope your curiosity rests easy now… :)

i love your version of this song, but i think the harmony in “what a wonderful world” is just about perfect. i think that’s probably your best duet so far.

btw, i’m sure you know by now, but aj rafael covered “message from your heart.” it sounds wonderful.

Great version of Yesterday!

Every time I hear this song now, I can’t help but think of the movie “Bean.” Sure, it was terrible, and the Mr. Bean BBC series was much better, but hearing Mr. Bean sing “Suddenly” is just pure hilarity!

Now let’s sit back and see if anyone gets that reference.

Although watching kina videos is very addicting, I find it easy to stop watching them….I just fall asleep at 3am sitting at my computer! When I wake up in a puddle of drool and the screen saver is on, I can then just walk away and get to bed. See…easy!!

Shuukiii said on...

April 6, 2009

Hard way to stop watching =p maybe i’m gonna try for fun… but the puddle of drool scares me … hopefully i don’t drool that much! hiihii But here’s a big social problem: How can we stop watching kina’s video??!!! ..without drooling xD … maybe we’ll find the real answer ona day!
