white winter hymnal

this week was such a roller coaster. i had a boston show, then i didn’t, then i did, then i didn’t, then i did… and then… well i’m sure you can assume how that went. :(

i’m so sorry that i wont be getting to see all you bostonians, and i’m even more sorry that i pumped us all up for this show for months only to let us all down. the good news is, i’m already planning on coming back in the fall, this time for real. unfortunately, i wont have time for a meetup this time around since the primary reason for my being there is to attend a wedding (and other wedding-related festivities.)

this afternoon i met with my mixer brian yaskulka and listened to a few tracks from the album that he’s working on. it’s sounding really good! a lot of you have been asking when the new album will be released… i promise you that the second i have an answer, you will know. this whole album-making process keeps surprising me with new snags and difficulties. it’s challenging… but when it’s done it will be the most gratifying thing ever.

well, i think that’s all for me for now. hope you enjoyed a little grannis sister craziness, i know, it’d been too long :)

as always, thank you all for being here for me–encouraging me, supporting me, helping me, inspiring me.

i am lucky.

oovret: Week 60

Where did you go on your previous all family vacation?

several years ago we went to maui together. i miss hawaii :(
Do you enjoy fishing? If so, what is the biggest fish you have caught?
i haven’t fished many times in my life, but i have some fond memories surf fishing with my dad. i think one time we caught a sand shark (we set him free, of course)
What is your favorite lake activity?
unfortunately, some of my favorite lake activities do not involve being on a boat since i tend to get seasick :( i like walking along shorelines looking for living things though!
Do you enjoy listening to Natalie Cole?
i love natalie cole and have even thought of covering some of her songs (and the songs of her father)
Do you feel lost after being away from the internet for an extended period of time?
it’s great/relaxing in theory to get a break from the internet, except that i know when i get back on, i’ll have lots of emails and music-related business awaiting me which would be not relaxing/stressful to try and catch up on. (confession: i was on my computer every day during my vacation!)
Did you remember that movie character’s name?
….

FIRST!

I love the nature backdrop… and the “abort” in the outtake was really funny :)

edit: the music was amazing like always… just wanted to say something else so i’m not a broken record (because all your songs/covers are amazing!)

aw surf fishing sounds so fun. i got to try that with my dad some day, since he’s probably the only one that supports me for fishing. haha

This video should be used as a medication for depressed people, at least it made me smile. All you need is a funny song, great singing & the Grannis sisters :)

The instruments Misa and Emi are playing look a little strange to me. I guess we in Finland don´t have such sophisticated intruments yet ;)

awesome cover by the three of you guys! the scenery was so beautiful and you guys sang amazingly. definitely loved the different settings you used on your camera. especially on the lakefront, love!
have a good time in boston!

Oh oh, I almost forgot. Lake Tahoe looks just like Finland (though we don´t have mountains). So, if you liked it there… *HINT HINT HINT*

I think that was subtle enough, right?

your video was wonderful, as always. what a nice spot for a vacation, wow! I love when you & your sisters do videos together…. so nice.

Um… I think the “I” was cut off of Isabelle’s name! haha. I was over their house yesterday, and they both wanted to send emails to you, Kina! I hope you got them. haha. they just love you, I’ll be sad to disappoint them that they can’t at least meet you, but… it is what it is.

The fall isn’t so far away, and so I hope your trip will indeed be glorious!

This video is incredibly cool. It reminds me of something that would be found in the “Extras” section of a Kina Grannis Live at ______ DVD.

the new vdeo was mega-man awesome! i’ll see you in the fall, an i’m pumped! emi’s new haircut is very nice. i love how this is filmed, whomever is behind the camera knows what they are doing. also i loved the scenes with you three walking on the docks or what have you, the black and white scenes, they were nice.

see you in the fall, hopefully boston will be more pretty than it is right now, all rainy as it is and such. blah. blah. blah.

Hey Kina! I’m very glad to see you cover Fleet Foxes; not only was it great, but the three of you sounded like you had fun! Another amazing cover of their stuff (by two sisters) is a group in Sweden called First Aid Kit I think you might like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMrqBldlqzA if you want to check it out sometime.

dang, I KNEW I had heard this song before… If you’re ever looking for collabs, I think this guy Will Sturgeon lives in SoCal somewhere… not sure where exactly, but he’s pretty cool and plays all kinds of instruments

Did you consider any of the Boston area Colleges/Universities?

The song was nice and your voices blended very well. Just followed you on twitter. I’ve followed web and graphic designers but your the first I followed who sings. May you have more gigs to come and an overflow of new song from the heart.

Please, make a “happy birthday” for my sister. Her birthday is on the fourth of august. Her name is Malin. And if you want to, please paint a small dolphine by her name. It’s a joke between us and it would be so sweet if you could make it for her. She’s your street member 094. :)

Love,
Sofia.
