first train home
hello all!
hope you enjoy this week’s video! it was pretty fun trying to figure out how to do this song acoustically. do check out imogen’s newest cd “ellipse,” it’s awesome. and if you’re new to her completely, you need to listen to her album “speak for yourself” and her album under the name frou frou– “details.” definitely some of my all time favorites.
updates on MY album …
- i have changed the title of my album. but you never knew what the old one was… so it’s ok :) i’ll refrain from telling you the new one in case it changes again.. heh.
- after mistakenly declaring my “LAST DAY OF MIXING” twice… i should probably keep quiet about that stuff until it’s done this time. i only have a few more tweaks i want to make though…. ok, i’ll say it. last mixing day is monday!! (i’m going to regret that…)
- album art… oy. i’ve got a ways to go. it’d help if i could take some good pictures. (the problem is not the photographers, it’s my face not knowing what to do when there’s a camera in front of it)
oh! and anyone in the fresno area– please come say hi at the caruthers fair this friday! here’s the info:

a yamaha keyboard :)
Where do you keep all the gifts that are sent to you? in my room, around the house, in a big corner of my living room… and all the letters i keep in boxes :)
At the current rate, when will you be out of storage space?
it will just keep expanding and taking over :) and i’m totally fine with that!
Do you enjoy listening to Tony Bennett?
yes :) his music makes me feel classy.
Does Rice-A-Roni taste better when you are in San Francisco?

Soo…what was the old title since it’s not being used anymore? haha. Also, maybe the photographer should just follow you around one day taking candids. Maybe he’ll catch something that would totally work for the cover.

i was just thinking the same thing. once you find the final title, you gotta spill the old ones =D

happy wednesday kina! thanks for keeping up with these blahg posts. i don’t know how you do it. you still make time for shoutouts and kind greetings, and, yet another favorite cover. have a lovely show in fresno but come to portland soon!

I love the lyrics to this song because it’s pretty much me at parties. “Um, I could be doing much more useful/fun things right now. Why am I here again? Yes I know you’re tipsy. I’m just going to stand in the corner and write a list of all the things I just thought of that I want to do when I get home.”

I’m speechless ;) Heart <3

You are so amazing. You’ve got such a beautiful voice and a wonderful style of interpreting songs. The “hi-hat” sounds are funny :)
I love Ellipse too.
PS You’ve got a lot of boxes :D

Kina! Put some make-up on like you did in Stars Falling Down and make it your album cover. Haha! Joking!
I really liked this song. I’ll have to check out more of Imogen’s music.

That’s when you start making up words or changing the meaning of existing words. :)

The update is full of wondrous facts but not this one.
Have you ever had the opportunity to try Poutine?
September 30, 2009
Lovely, Kina. Looked like you had fun singing that.
Waiting for the album is killing me, but it´s also a reminder of how seriously you take your music, so making no compromises is good :)
Soooo… is “e” still the most common letter in your album´s name?
September 30, 2009
Sorry… your genetic make up might be responsible for that reaction.

This cover made me smile. Thanks for making my day, Kina. :) As for the album art, I have rummaged through my cd collection to see what the other artists do in their pictures. The “look away” seems to be a very popular pose. Just look away from the camera like there is something really interesting going on in the corner of the room. That will make you look all troubled and mysterious. Or you can do what Vanessa Carlton did on the cover of “Heroes & Thieves”. She looks straight at the camera like it has taken something valuable away from her and she is contemplating what she will do to it….On second thought, that one is kinda creepy. I’d go with the first one. Actually, do what you feel. You could probably show up wearing a garbage bag and some oven mitts, and we’ll all think it’s the most beautiful picture we’ve ever seen. lol *Gasp* There’s an idea! Totally original, too. You’re welcome. :P

I absolutely love Imogen Heap! and more than pleasantly surprised to hear you singing First Train Home! Ellipse, Speak For Yourself and her work in Frou Frou, I’ve loved it all, but I, Megaphone always surprises me. Her first album! It has a slightly different feel than everything else. I don’t know if I want to say unpolished or rough, but it’s exciting and… louder? I want to say louder… maybe I could turn the volume down…
September 30, 2009
yay this makes me happy!

oh my goodness, Kina! I find it hard to believe that you do not take good pictures… I have yet to see one single picture where you do not look beautiful. seriously!
also, listening to Tony Bennett’s music makes me feel classy, too. I picture ballroom dancing to it. : )

Wow… nice collection of wooden boxes. If you head up to Portland, OR for whatever reason… you should stop by a shop called “The Real Mother Goose”.
I think you’d like it.

Oh, and if you’re having trouble looking natural for photos… try taking along someone just to chat with while you’re in the photo session. Mom, sister, friend. Anyone you can talk to and feel relaxed around.
September 30, 2009
Precisely me too, Misa.
I’m the person, who, when people are smashing beer bottles and riding around in shopping carts in the parking lot, is eating tomato soup and watching Grey’s Anatomy on DVD.
Kina! KINA! WHAT?! I go along really comfortable with the reality that…yes, okay, you’re my favorite musician, and, I love everything you do, so, basically, things couldn’t get better, and then you go and do this! It’s AMAZING. How do you sleep at night knowing you make so many people shake their heads in disbelief?!
Awesome. You’re awesome.
Proud.

Ditto.

September 30, 2009
lol I think I’m going to add snuffleupagus to my lexicon
September 30, 2009
Okay, I don’t quite get this song to be honest. But that’s okay because I still like it. There are many layers to it. You probably added even more to it, too. It’s like when I come across a high fasion multi-layered women’s clothing and think “cool!!!…but I don’t quite get it.” …I like it a bit more each time I watch this video. It’s probably the future of music of some kind. Thank you for the education.
September 30, 2009
haha yes! i’m the worst at parties.. totally the person in the corner wondering why I agreed to come.

October 4, 2009
Then there’s only one solution. One of us has to become US president so we can meet in the oval office!
October 5, 2009
Great cover, I didn’t expect anything less, I can see u put a lot of work into it.
But from what i could see in your eyes behind the pretty smile you look a bit tired.
I imagine that the expectations are high and there is a sort of pressure with this album. But always remember that there are so many people that love u no matter what ….and that we are only human.
God be with u!

Funny you should mention that. The Rosewood and Mahogany box in her video (with the orange guitar picks in it) is made by a craftsman who sells Jewelery boxes to that store. http://www.duncanswoods.com/ He makes some nice stuff.
