the sound of silence
what a long day! more than a few things went very wrong in the making of this video, but i really did enjoy the process, and i really really love the song. i had a bit of fun with the track in garageband– added backing vocals, percussion (hitting my guitar), and some weird noises too :)
today i’m going back into the studio to work on mixes again. it’s been really coming together :)
i’m really excited for the shows coming up the next two weekends! they should be so much fun. i’m a little weirded out since i haven’t done a show in months though… hopefully i remember how to do it.

When you record your bla(h)g video, do you imagine you’re performing in front of 100,000 people?
haha.. no. if i did they would be more awkward than you could imagine. i do imagine that i am performing for a lot of people… just not 100,000… ah!
Have you ever tried to count to 100,000?
goodness no.
Do you own 100,000 pieces of anything?
hairs on my head?
Do you enjoy eating “100 Grand” candy bars?
i enjoy most candies :) although i haven’t eaten many 100 grands in my day.
What song could you listen to 100,000 times?
oh dear, i don’t know. a good number i think, but that requires a lot of brain work, and my brain is mostly asleep.

i swear, it just gets better and better! it’s been awhile since i last listened to this song. your harmonies are awesome (and so is the drumming on your guitar… lol)!!!
and i love that whenever you’re singing, you go into this mode. i don’t even know what to call it, but i can just tell that you absolutely love what you’re doing. it’s very inspiring, kina! i can’t even measure just how amazing you are – unless you call ‘too amazing’ some kind of measurement (rambling >_< )!

After the long 2 weeks there is now between videos, I start to forget how genuinely happy it makes me to see a new Kina vid. But then you go and do something like this and I’m reminded of the magic.

Hey Kina,
thanks for such a great video! A few weeks ago I rediscovered the song and thought: It would be so cool if Kina did a cover of it… And here it is :)
September 2, 2009
That’s been discussed, but the general consensus was that rights issues would be too much of a nightmare, particularly with Kina being an independent.
But I do wish she’s put them up as MP3’s like David Choi does.

Once again AMAZING COVER! Does anyone how to get a birthday shoutout from kina?
September 2, 2009

Oh vision. My peripheral vision starts to wane as I watch this video and somewhere in the middle my eyes are closed, and I’m just enjoying the sound… It’s beautiful. Your voice is beautiful. I’m sure Simon & Garfunkel will thank you when they hear this cover. In the meantime, here is one from a little man…thank you! (Oh, and the T-shirt arrived today. Thanks!)

Kina! What an amazing cover! :)
I love hearing harmonies like that from you.
Not only does it sound lovely, it reminds us of how you’re more than just a great singer.
It’s nice to know that you understand music in the way that you do.
It’s kind of like the feeling that I’d get if I found out my pilot graduated top of his class in flight school. I feel like we’re in good hands with you.
You’re the best. Seriously. I’m trying to think of someone who is better. I can’t.
Keep doing what you’re doing.

i think the only thing that would make this video better is if you actually turned the sauna on, let your hair frizz up, and wore a garfunkel-like fro =P
September 5, 2009
I just can never get enough of you, Kina!
Ever.
I am bummed I won’t be in Cali on the 12′th. That’s when my B/D is, & that when you happen to have greet & meet thing going… Next year! :)

Thanks for the Sound of Silence. You know, I listen to your “Stars Falling Down” on YouTube and I can’t get it into my iPod! So will you PLEASE get that tune on your new album…as an encore or whatever. It’s a great little positive song. Good luck with your new album – I’ll be sure to check it out.
Cheers!

Hi kina!
I just wanted to drop by and leave a comment. You’re a huge inspiration to me, I love your music and also your covers (I’m actually thinking about posting a few covers of your songs). Anyways! (i should get t the point by now) i have a suggestion of a song you could cover, i think you would sing it beautifully. Peter Broderick – ‘with the notes in my ears’ :-)

Thank you for the hush. I thank from the deepest of my middle of the night enchanted soul. I thank from my truly restless no-more-words right eye, left hand, somewhere over and over. Has no more common missions to be. Why? Because I’m into the sound of silence. But I have to thank you for having the voice, of sharing your eyes, within the gentle tones, of being that tender and fabulous. Hello, Kina. If I ever move to the States, I’ll bring you some flowers. Noone soothes the dark lights like you, now.
