    I like this song.

General Hospital Convention…interesting, I have never heard it called that before. We jsut call it the GH FCW: General Hospital Fan Club Weekend.

I was originally going, but stuff happened, and am not able to go, and even if I wasn, sadly i wouldn’t have been able to make the show, as the event i was gonna go to was at that time.

I am sure there will be GHer’s there though, and I bet you will rock.

  6. dro or ryan Says:

hallelujah! you know, sleeping on the floor does wonders for your back.

    I’m in cali in 4 days, LA in 8! = )
bad timing, i’m gonna miss both of your gigs while i’m there. = (

I wanted to see the bloopers! You said you messed up a lotta times. I love watching you mess up. Where are the bloopers? :)

A fabulous song, a classic. And I don’t know that I’ve ever heard a girl cover it, actually…well done my child. I had thought to suggest it for you, actually, but sadly I’m lazy about posting, so I can’t take credit. Unless that would’ve functioned as reverse psychology. You might be that kind of girl.

Thanks for a brighter Monday, and for narrowly squeaking it in before my bedtime. Until next week then (and enjoy rolling up your clothing for a bed :))

  10. 10  arch Says:

hey all. just sayin “hey.” been lurking for the past few months. i break my silence for today just because it’s the 8th of july. happy 8th of july everyone!

v8 splash berry blend somewhat tastes like kool-aid to me.

    @kina
do you at least have a fan to keep you somewhat cool in your room? where do you keep your guitars safe from the horrid heat? i sure hope it’s not humid as well.

    come to chicago already.

  17. 17  Graeme Says:

Wow.. This is an amazing interpretation Kina! I wish i could have it on my iPod, I would listen to it all the time! Along with all your other songs of course! Represent from Middle Earth (NZ)
    Have a great week!

  18. 18  kina Says:

that wall-e mini robot is sic! i want one of those. haha

  20. 20  mojojojo78 Says:

kina! i thought you might have forgotten another monday lol first of all, great song. every time i think i’ve heard the best of you, you do one better. secondly, the wall-e toy. i gotta have it! where’d you get it? lol

thanks for sharing your music with us. you truly are the sole reason i look forward to mondays.

  21. 21  J.C. Says:

    Cool cover as usual…:)

Haha Wall-e…reminds me of Johnny 5

That sucks about the bed…are you sleeping on the couch? You should get an air mattress from Target for the time being; it’s less than $10. I don’t know how comfortable it would be, but it’s only temporary. I personally like my bed to be firm…wait…did that sound right? Target Air Mattress link

  22. 22  Glenn Says:

Your “empty” apt seems to make it good for acoustics. It added to your wonderful rendition.

On a side note: would it be odd for me to say that whenever I hear this song that I am reminded of Shrek? too many movies in my head (ugh), I need to read more…

I have yet to see Wall-E, and a slew of other movies on my “want to see” list. btw, did I miss it or did you leave out your recommended cover… the heat and the GH Con must have addle your brain ;-)

  23. 23  Russ. Says:

@ Kina - not only am i back on the bla(h)g, but i found the time to start myself on the forumzz!!

@ mama g - i need an official, mama g made, Kina press Pass. =)

  24. 24  Timmy Says:

@ Kina - Wonderful cover…. once again, one of my favorite songs ever. It’s like you’re reading my all time favorite playlist or something :). But I miss seeing you live :(. Had a last minute photoshoot that weekend, so I had to miss out on K-Scope. Poo…. and there was a Yogurtland there too, wasn’t there? :( Next time.

@ Aeglos - Actually, k.d. lang covered this song a few years back. Probably the most depressing version of this song I’ve ever heard, not that its a bad thing. Her’s is just a lot more emotional in her singing, as opposed to Cohen, Buckley, and Wainwright.

@ Glenn - Shrek has Rufus Wainwright’s version in the movie (also a brilliant singer and artist as well), so at least for me, I’m not surprised that you’re reminded of the movie :)

@ everyone - omg… WALL-E!!!! Have you all seen that movie?!?!? It’s amazing!!!! Even with a lack of dialogue, Pixar makes movie magic again :). For those of you who are close enough, I know that they sell the WALL-E pillow thingys at World of Disney in Downtown Disney. Maybe Disney Stores too? Not sure.

  25. 25  jRo Says:

so i did this gravatar deal and i’m wondering if my picture will show up and so i’m posting this comment

    hey kina!

it was SO awesome to meet you on saturday!!! i had an amazing time at the show and i converted all of my friends into hard-core kina fans :) i was quite sad that i couldnt buy your CDs at the show as i had no money on me, but OF COURSE one of my friends gave me an Itunes gift card for my birthday so i bought all three CDs on itunes chyeahhhhh

so now the response to the monday blog:

  30. 30  steph Says:

  31. 31  justin_salum Says:

    hi kina,

ive been a longtime reader of ur blogs and have watched all ur videos on youtube but this is my first time responding, although i have no clue as to why that is…

well i just wanted to give you a huge THANK YOU for the birthday shout out in this video…it was so awesome seeing my name there on Wall-E (it made me feel even more special seeing it there btw, hehe)….this’ll probably be the highlight of my 21st bday that ill remember forever and ever…i can see it now, some time in the future when im asked what the best part of my 21st bday was…i can respond “…well i was sitting in my bedroom and was watching one of Kina Grannis’ videos on youtube…..and i totally saw my name in it…booyah! beat that!”…and thats when the person quietly stands up and walks away, confused as to what just happened…

    …well THANKS again! (haha)

    Justin

“3) BOOOO TO IKEA!!!! you should call them back and be like: ‘hey, im freaking kina grannis. my bed should have been here in my apartment before i even ordered it!’”

  33. 33  dro or ryan Says:

haha there my comment is. Every time i buy something from IKEA, there’s a piece missing. but never the mattress.

  34. 34  Jeffreyy ! Says:

Kina !! tnx for the shout ! good morning ! (:, it’s wayy too early n humid to do anything :\, but readin’ your blog, again; does the trick ! haha. Anyways, seriously though,

@Kina - So i know you’re always busy but quick question; when you have time just to relax a bit, besides spoiling us w/ blogs, & making your days filled, what do you do ? I’m sure it’s been answered but i couldn’t seem to find the answer anywhere! keke.

sorry about the mattress; that’s a huge bummer. darn IKEA ! But I hope you slept somewhere comfy !

k, thanks for always bein’ the absolute best. Have a loveelyy filled weak ! Relax a bit, you deserve it . :)

  35. 35  Jeffreyy ! Says:

  36. 36  kiyoG Says:

    Hello kina-san

Is there any kaitenzushi shops in the neiborhood of your apartment?
    do you know kaitenzushi?

    hamachi is very popular sushi,
kina-san is a good sushi eater.

    and good katakana-charactor writer.

but it has a slight difference in katakana’s ‘me’ of “message”.
it seems like katakana’s ‘na’, it is pronounced “nassage”.
It’s like saying that katanaka’s ‘me’ seems like ‘X’

Well, they’re probably just plucking fresh geese for ya.

    Should’ve bought a hammock.

    -wwar1ace

  41. 41  Jen Says:

    @Kina-

NO you did not sound stupid at all. I just thought it was funny, cause I had never heard it called a convention before. I mean I guess it is kinda like that. I don’t know I’ve never been to it before, just heard stories from people who have gone, and watched videos of it on youtube.

Plus if you don’t watch the show and do the whole message board, interent thing for the show, you gotta really be a fan you probably don’t hair about it, and wouldn’t know what it is called. So I thought I would just let you know it is the Fan Club Weekend and i hear it can be pretty scary that these fans get pretty crazy.

and i forogot to say, it sucks you have no bed.

  42. 42  lpi Says:

    hi kina,

you may remember me as amy locke’s friend from UCSB, or as the girl that asked you to come to IV earth day. i really love this song and i wanted to let you know that you should check out annie bethancourt (http://www.myspace.com/anniebethancourt). she is the first person i heard sing this song.

    thanks for happy mondays!

  45. 45  gruntled Says:

One of, if not your best, cover to date, Kina. Absolutely heart-breaking. You never fail to amaze me, week after week after week. Don’t ever stop.

  46. 46  sherriekinney Says:

Hey my name’s in there, you love me!!

I promise that if you come to Idaho I will get lots and lots of people to come. Everyone I know would go, and everyone I don’t know will get something from me inviting them to go, and since I don’t know them I won’t care if they think I’m weird cause I might never see them again, but if I DO see them again it’ll be at your show!! Whew. I hope that is made sense..

You show so much emotion in this cover I just love it. :)

  47. 47  sherriekinney Says:

    P.S.

Sorry you don’t have your mattress yet. :( IKEA is the best place ever though!! Other than them not bringing you your bed, of course.

  48. 48  Awake Says:

Haha. @jRo, when you asked Kina if she at least has a fan to keep her cool in her room, I thought you meant one of us.

@Kina, great cover. Misa in New York, does that mean NYC? BTW, next time you come to New York, please play somewhere that allows kids. My daughter will be very disappointed to have to wait until she is 21 to see you live!

Oh, I figured out what my YouTube problem was. The Google Web Accelerator I installed a while ago was causing many videos at YouTube, including all of Kina’s, to show a “We’re sorry. This video is no longer available.” error message. When I stopped the Web Accelerator, the problem went away. Quite ironic since Google owns YouTube.

    Happy Tuesday.

  49. 49  coffee Says:

The cover made me a little sad, but I liked it.

I’ve been listening to your CDs almost non stop for the past month. My older brothers want to kill me because that’s all I’ve been blasting. But oh well, I’m spreading your music at least =]

  50. 50  jRo Says:

hey my picture is up. i guess it just needed some time. nifty cool.

  51. 51  love_cody903 Says:

hey everyone…i just wanted to stop by and say hi and that i’m new to this blog site…

@kina (i’m assuming that’s what you do when you want to direct something to a specific person???)umm…love the tunes…and i’m dying to meet you so one day i’ll go to a show…soon…

  52. 52  love_cody903 Says:

another thing…can anyone tell me how to upload a picture? i guess i’m more retarded than i originally thought….

  53. 53  Code2mind Says:

    Morning everyone…

    @mojojojo78: thanks :)

@love_cody903: if you scroll down through the blogs.. you’ll see one under “gravatar” check it out.. there should be a link to get you started. :)

  54. 54  love_cody903 Says:

@Code2mind: thank you…i’ll check it out, and your picture is just so cool….

  55. 55  blew Says:

This song was so emotional, while I was listening I started thinking about the sad things that have happened to me. A song has never done that to me. Kina you have true talent to put people in a different state of mind like you just did to me. I wanted to have a productive day, but after this song I just want to reflect on life haha.

  56. 56  sabafa Says:

    Such a sad song:.(

    @ kina

Perhaps, you could rig up bed sheets as a hammock till the mattress comes, or sleep in a chair like my Mom is having to do at the moment because of a lucky break that left her a bit broken but still alive<her3

  57. 57  Isheeka Edwards Says:

I think you have a great voice and such a good spirit. I watch you every monday. your covers are good, your originals are awesome. I really hope i can make it to one of your shows soon

  58. 58  shir Says:

ahh thanks so much for doing our cover request! it was absolutely beautiful…

i’ve been sleeping on tatami/futons for the past week, much cooler near the floor :)

any special requests from japan? im off to okinawa saturday and will be sure to leave some kina love there!

  59. 59  angloman Says:

Kina, great cover! I won’t say that it’s better than oryginal, becouse Leonard is only one, and his voice is only one too. But your cover is verry beautiful, it’s different. And I like it! ;)

“The small papers”: OMG! That’s wonderful! I will do something like it so that everyone in my village and in another city could hear about YOU!
    And leater you’ll see surprise;)

    Love Ola.

Hey guys, if you’re into gadgets and cool electronic stuff like myself, Sharper Image is having a 50-70% clearance :)

  61. 61  ajsea Says:

Kina:I’m alive!!! First of all, thank you (and everyone else) for your well wishes! believe it or not, (which you should) your (alls) caring comments are in some ways better than my “real” friends. After all, although those are awesome and meaningful, they feel so… obligatory.

Anyway, I am out of the hell of nausea and vomiting from surgery, anesthesia, and pain meds. unfortunately, as nice as our local rehabilitation center is, a hospital is still a hospital. Fortunately, (or unfortunately depending, of course, on your perspective) I’m quite used to hospitals by now. Really, now that the nausea is over I’m myself again:-)

On second thought, maybe I’m not quite up to normal. Then again, maybe I’m on cloud nine. You see, I was so moved by your shout out and the power, emotion, and beauty of your cover that you brought me to tears. I know, I know, it sounds emo. your vocals on one of my favorite songs is a heavenly combination! something about your connection to the song leads me to believe that it means something to you, a significance that perhaps runs deeper than just the lyrics and notes on the page. Thanks to you, Kina, I, too, will now have a much deeper connection to one of my favorite songs! I would say thank you again, but I think my body already did that for me. After all, you brought me to tears. Okay, it is much too late and I don’t want mama g to scold me for staying up too late in the hospital! if anyone is interested, let me know and I’ll explain more about my procedure on the blog or on the boards tomorrow. Goodnight all! and you stay classy, kinagrannis.com/blog/

  62. 62  Dr G Says:

  72. 72  sabafa Says:

    POUR QUOI?

We’re sorry, this video is no longer available “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-rBdBRlRM4″:((

Will this be put back on again, or do we resign ourselves to listening to the soft ‘n’ delightful ‘loosely floating/fill’ from the CD in future and miss out on the pretty visual element?

I vote no more CD’s in favour of DVD’s (just in case we loose more Grannis videos) and a free/nominal charge swop service for those already having the CD’s who dislike missing the visage of Kina/Emi/Misa that such losses entail, or, a free top-up DVD like Marie Digby’s - it’s so good that the CD may not even get to be read by a laser!

  73. 73  ajsea Says:

    @Dr. G.

Bear with me. This may be more than a little complicated to explain. In an effort to make this comment as short as it can possibly be (which may make it sound like I am completely disinterested in answering this question, but trust me I’m not — this comment will be much long enough as it is) any definition no one understands please look them up; I don’t want to take the time or the space to define anything in what will be an already veritable short-story-of- a-comment.

That said, I suffered a trauma at birth which left me with quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Although CP can manifest itself in many different ways, it definitely has one underlying symptom in common: spasticity.

This can, depending on its severity, make the life of someone living with cerebral palsy more difficult, increasingly so as time goes on and the person grows older. In math terms, time plus spasticity equals a greater probability of increased pain and lessened mobility. This all changes after the pump is put into place. The medicine administered by the pump essentially “bathes” the nerves in the spinal column with enough medicine to quell the spasticity; however, the medicine is not often, if ever, administered as a be-all end-all quickfix. Instead, I am in a two-week (at the time of writing, have four days left) stay at a local rehabilitation Hospital receiving three hours of therapy daily, both physical and occupational. Although this may seem tough to you guys it is actually quite a rewarding adventure.
Anyway, I am feeling good and making more progress by the day. I, of course, will keep you all informed on my continuing journey.

  74. 74  TimR Says:

    @ajsea:
I’m glad the treatment’s helping! Best wishes :)

  75. 75  Dr G Says:

    @ ajsea

CP seems to be one of those most unfortunate and unfair complications of birth. I have always been thankful that computers came along for people whose bodies make locomotion difficult if not impossible. And the pain pumps are very helpful. I am glad for your sake that you have had access to both, and also glad to have you as part of the blog group. Continue enjoying the rehab and keep the comments coming.

  76. 76  ajsea Says:

    @dr g

My mobility is improving daily and I feel better than ever before. Fortunately, I never have experienced pain associated with CP–more mobility problems anything else, really. Now, thanks to baclofen, (my med), more mobility. Enough med talk. Now back to your (ir)regularly scheduled, Kina! lol

jeez r the blogs always going to be posted this late from now on?…

  78. 78  Code2mind Says:

lol.. she may be busy doing other things.. the blog will be here.. no worries.

  79. 79  Becki Says:

Yeah her twitter said there were technical difficulties and that she didn’t have internet access for a bit. No big. It’s still going to be a crazy sweet Kina filled vid. We may even get a tutorial! Yay!

  80. 80  mike D Says:

its just that blogs keep gettin posted later and later…first on sunday, then monday, now it looks like it’s gonna be tuesday…just wish it was consistent thats all

  81. 81  J.C. Says:

    @ajsea

    Hope you get better soon…

  82. 82  Aeglos Says:

I’d complain about the late blog too, except…what have I ever given Kina? What does she owe me? Yet she gives me weekly blogs, and they make me smile.

But it is bedtime for employed pandas. I fear, gentle Kina, I shall have to watch your video tomorrow. Good night

  83. 83  J.C. Says:

    @mike D

    Patience…she has a life too :)

  84. 84  Becki Says:

    @Aeglos

True story. Even if she didn’t give us a heads up as to why it wasn’t posted at the time expected, there’s no need to fret. I’m pretty sure the vid will make anyone just as happy if it were posted on…not Monday, than Monday.

    @ajsea

I too hope you keep staying positive and feel better soon!

  85. 85  JD Says:

I have to say, I kind of sympathize with mike. I mean, after all, this is her job right? But she does have a life, that is true. Just saying…please don’t kill me now. :)

  86. 86  mike D Says:

not frettin or nothin, but i did waste a lot of time waitin around clickin refresh earlier…serves me right…i guess i should get a life lolz

  87. 87  Code2mind Says:

lol.. i was doing the same thing.. but yah.. no biggie if it doesnt go up today.. we still love ya KINA!! im just watching her old videos instead… :)

  88. 88  JD Says:

Well, I fear I shall have to agree with Aeglos, as it’s getting a bit late. To bed with me.

  89. 89  mike D Says:

    oh forget it…nite all.

  90. 90  Mama G Says:

Kina has a new apartment which is not yet set up properly with furniture ($#*!@? IKEA!). It is quiet enough to film her blog, but alas…. no internet yet.

She has friends’ apartments that have internet, but alas…. it’s like Grand Central Station there.

There’s the local Starbucks but she would undoubtedly be too embarrassed to film in public and the starving artist in her would find it hard to pay for the internet.

And even though I haven’t been with her today, I know she has been rehearsing, filming, editing, and generally stressing about getting the blog posted in time. It’s what she does every week. You seriously have no idea how much she stresses over the blog… wanting to post something entertaining and worthy of your attention. Sometimes it happens in a timely fashion, sometimes not.

Some people have suggested she cut back on the internet thing and concentrate on writing more, but she’s not quite ready to do that. So for those of us who find it hard to wait, maybe in our minds we should establish Tuesday as blog day, then we won’t have to wait! How about it, mike D? :)

  91. 91  Code2mind Says:

well said.. it is stressful to make blogs.. i have hours of video that i havent posted cause its never good enough.. lol. but yeah.. whats a days wait anyway? good nite all, looking forward to in when it gets up.. btw.. no furnitures yet? that blows!

  92. 92  deana Says:

Thanks for the update mama g. She makes it seem so effortless every week so maybe fans forget how much she puts into it.

  93. 93  mike D Says:

there’s no need to film at starbucks or in public, she could just film in her apartment, save the file, then upload elsewhere!…no need to pay lotsa money for access either. free wi-fi’s pretty common…there’s plenty of free wi-fi areas in la! most la city branch libraries have good quality free access as well…i can appreciate how stressed she is, and nothin but respect for her effort…but i think it’s important to stick to ur commitments, espeically if its to ur fans (customers), otherwise not set deadlines you might not meet and dash their expectations.

that said, i’ll wait for tuesday then. :)

  94. 94  Russ. Says:

    Thanx Mama G.

    … Whenever Kina’s ready.

p.s. - thanx for the shirt (again) Mama G!!

  95. 95  Mama G Says:

    You’re welcome, Russ!

  96. 96  Misa Says:

And it’s not really her job yet. Rather, it *is* her job, but it’s not *paying* like a job should yet, so there’s still a lot of legwork to be done to *make* this her full-time job plus the financial stresses of making ends meet until the music starts supporting her. Plus, even if one could say this were her job, her *real* job would be making music, and interacting with her fans would be the icing on the cake that makes Kina so special, so I think a late blog is better than no blog at all and there’s really no room to complain. (Plus I’ve seen how long it takes to make a blog entry from inception to posting on youtube, and it’s a LONG TIME, and considering how much other stuff she has to do right now it’s impressive she still keeps up the weekly schedule at all!)

  97. 97  Glenn Says:

Well said Misa and thanks to Mama G for being Mama G.

  98. 98  Gregory Mignon Says:

When Will you come In France ? :)

  99. 99  sabafa Says:

Thank you Kina for getting “Too Soon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-rBdBRlRM4” back up on You Tube:)

  100. 100  sabafa Says:

Just 2 let u know, I’ve deleted my http://www.youtube.com/sabafa32ndRstr250608 account and am not planning on opening a new one. I intensely dislike attempts to control me, so as I had sufficient control to not put up with it, I put a stop to my input!

There are possibly bigger issues besides the following one, but fancy them thinking they could get away with stopping me from watching the end of a Tom & Jerry cartoon over and over and expect me to stay as part of the community! At that level of censoring, I shudder to think what they would do if I start to watch your videos again and again like I used to!

They are cool though in letting someone go, unlike some sites that do their utmost to ignore your requests to close your account, or worse ones that do ignore and actively stop you stripping out your stuff or to close your account, or even worse ones that keep your stuff and allow you to close your account but without allowing you to remove all your stuff!
