    yay blog!!! ooh i love switchfoot! awesome cover :) so jealous i don’t live in socal!!

    i don’t think you should worry about it, your shoutouts are still incredibly you :)

    and we should totally switch places. me and geckos have no hearts in between us!

    oh.. and miley cyrus?! WHAT?? hahaha that is hilarious.

    ps. your eyes are really pretty in the airport shoot. sorry, just had to comment on that. oh and the guy behind you looks like he’s trying to get into your video without being too obvious haha

  2. Russ. Says:

    your hotel room looked very comfty… lovely cover, lovely bla(h)g, lovely tuesday morning.

    p.s.
    is there anything special about the VIP tickets? other than the lounge and goodie bag?

    &

    Mosquitos are no joke.
    ttys.

  3. Katiebean Says:

    I walk away for 2 minutes to make some Ramen and I miss it!

    Well I hope you had a smooth flight and that you don’t rip off your foot (I would think it might make things complicated, that’s just me though).

    So, yay blog!

    (I just want to apologize ahead of time if none of this makes sense, it is late, as you have pointed out, and I’m not usually very coherent when I’m tired)

    The song was really sad, but very beautiful. That seems to be how it usually is. Sad and beautiful go together like peanut butter and bananas.

    I want to wish you the best of luck for the Hotel Cafe show! How I wish I was born just a few years earlier! I thought when I turned 18 I could do anything. Oh how wrong I was!

    I should probably finish making my Ramen…have a wonderful tuesday!

  4. steph Says:

    oh and i just thought of this. when you bring your guitar around with you.. on the plane. i’m guessing you don’t check it in because that just seems like a bad idea. but where do you put it? i mean.. where does it fit on a plane?

  5. arch Says:

    tiny lizard!

    @steph
    hahaha that old man was awesome

    @katie
    peanut butter and bananas? whaa?

  6. elevated thought Says:

    yo whaaaaat? “Let That Be Enough” is like my favorite Switchfoot song ever! i wish more people covered that song. beautiful job as always. damn i wish i lived in socal.. actually no, i just wish you played more shows in norcal. hehehe

  7. steph Says:

    @arch
    haha i know he cracked me up.

    oh and i used to LOVE peanut butter and banana… esp in sandwiches… yummm… well that only lasted until i got allergic to peanuts :(

    so now i eat almond butter with bananas!!! not as good… but the best substitute i’ve found so far

  8. gu3ssit Says:

    haha… miley cyrus?? wow i dont see the resemblance.. usually im up at this time for no apparent reason maybe just because im a high school kid who doesnt have anything to do.. but today was different i actually had a reason to stay up and that was to see ur blog post. hehe

  9. steph Says:

    oh and i feel extremely stupid for commenting on the same blog in the span of like an hour… but just had to say that my favorite switchfoot song is learning to breathe. :)

  10. Libia! Says:

    wow i love that song! I first heard it on the movie Model Behavior have you seen it? its one of my favorites! the fact that people sometimes dont realize how great their life is until they live a week or two on someone elses shoes mmm so good and sad! but anyways like i said before u need to go to disney world!!!! =) where dreams come true!
    and thanks two days ago was my first day on the floor as a server at steak n shake i had tons of fun. but ah
    watching you play guitar makes me wana learn =(

    Well cant wait to c the video from Denver !

    Take care <3

  11. Jenn Renee Says:

    Hi Kina,

    Love the blog from the airport - I’ve done that a few times and thought I found a nice quiet spot with minimal people and then I look to left and someone is sitting right there, watching me yap into a camera. It’s a bit disconcerting. ;-)

    But really, kudos for getting the blog up with all that other stuff going on! As a musician and someone who’s trying to do all of this myself, it’s really inspiring, and I’m curious as to how you keep everything organized! Blogging here, on Myspace, and the various social networking sites, etc. Maybe I’m in dire need of some kind of time management. Or do you just not sleep? ;)

    Looking forward to the Hotel Cafe show!

    ~Jenn R.

  12. Senator Says:

    I was about to say your bedroom was coming along, lol until you said it was the hotel room.

    About the song you accidentally deleted do you type it in the phones wordpad? Seems if it was with the lines of text so short it would be hard to see all of what you have as you read through. I guess you can always email even incomplete work to yourself as a backup.

    Thanks for the video. Can’t wait to see the Denver pics.

  13. Gene Parmesan Says:

    I’m alive and finally, as of today, back in the states. I’m glad to see you listed Arrested Development on your list of shows…I would have been really hurt otherwise. Great video, and good luck with Interscope today.

    P.S. Don’t expect much, but something small from Peru is headed your way.

  14. sherriekinney Says:

    Last week when you commented on it it was by far the best moment of my week, and then now you featured me this week so you pretty much made my life! hahaha

    And thank you!!! :D

    ~Sherrie~

  15. Code2mind Says:

    yay! blog! .. :) still cant watch til later.. :( good to know you got home safely.

  16. Yohan Says:

    always going above and beyond =D

    you can fall back on being a miley cyrus impersonator now, hahaha.

    great cover and agree with steph, gorgeous eyes!

  17. rondhi Says:

    I’m at work right now. D:
    I’ll watch when I get to my other job.

  18. blew Says:

    Another great video as always. The festival sounded amazing, Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat, I wonder if they got together and sang “Lucky” (best song). I just noticed that Colbie and Kina are around the same age, Colbie looks a lot older than Kina though, both are very talented though. I saw Colbie live(she is amazing live), but not Kina yet though(which I am 100% positive is also amazing live). Kina you are spoiling us with 2 videos a week now, I don’t know if the regulars on this site will be able to get through the week when you go back to one video a week.

    P.S. Are we going to get to see some pics from your photo shoot with Emi?

  19. J.C. Says:

    @Kina

    Wow Kina…you posted the vid at 1AM?–that’s crazy! :) You must be really tired (but you don’t show it)…hats off to you…get some rest…

    Mosquitoe bites on your foot are the worst! It helps if you rub salt on the bite (better than scratching)…or better yet, anti-itch cream from the drugstore…

    @Katiebean

    Ah…cup’o noodles, greatest invention for college students :). Has lots of sodium but beats dorm food…

    Katie you’re only 18–the whole world is ahead of you! Keep striving to accomplish your goals!

    @Mama G

    I want to see pictures of your sand castles! :)

  20. JoePike Says:

    “tomorrow– meeting with interscope… hmmmm.”

    Kina, don’tcha mean…

    “tomorrow!! meeting with interscope!!! yaaaaaaay! will be a super positive hour laying out my immediate musical future!! can’t wait!!!”

    You must think positively and go into each meeting knowing it will have a great outcome and be everything you ever wanted it to be.

    Keep us updated please!

  21. dro or ryan Says:

    dugg for arrested dev & the office, switchfoot, and mr. williams!

    take care!

  22. Misa Says:

    that’s funny, someone told me I looked like Miley Cyrus a month or two ago. I didn’t see the resemblance then, either. Also, wtf keyboard? And to mr. soohoo, those pens and mugs = beautiful (yeah, yeah, wrong post, I’m lazy). There was something else I wanted to respond to but it’s not coming to me. Umm….OH YES–peanut butter + bananas + HONEY is the best. Mmmmm.

    ps–Gene, have I ever told you you’re one of my heroes?

  23. Austin Says:

    @ Kina - Miley Cyrus??!?!?!?!?!!?!? that would be really weird haha and amazing cover as always! i never heard that song before but i like it!

    @ Misa and others - Peanut Butter and Bananas is the best sandwhich EVER!! never tried it with honey though?? is it fantastic!!?!? haha but i have done peanut butter and just honey which is good but ill have to put them all together

    p.s. to all - Does anyone else when they go to spell bananas sing the gwen stefani song with the B.A.N.A.N.A.S ??? thats what i always do

  24. Aeglos Says:

    Kina! You’re mean! you’re just making me wonder more. Iiinteresting choice of song. But a very good one. I do like the song. Good for most points in my life, but particularly applicable for this one.

    And hey, keep that apology streak alive. I have a friend like you, y’know. I deal with her by demanding apologies from her for everything. So Kina, you better apologize next week, mmk? I don’t know for what, but I’m sure there’ll be something :)

  25. nimur Says:

    i feel so late in commenting here…
    wow.. a switchfoot oldie…haha

    @steph, re:guitars on planes
    my friend checked in his guitar(taylor 314ce) on a flight. it was in a hard case(not a road case) very much like the one kina uses. when he got it back from baggage it had been smashed. the top/face was dented and had a crack about 5″ long. its fixed now, but it’s just not the same….

    peanut butter and banana sandwiches… isn’t that what killed elvis?

    miley cyrus? is that the new compliment… “wow! you look like miley cyrus!”

  26. shir Says:

    kina - your tenacity for bloggin’ so often is humbling- thanks so much! also, we have the same fav. tv shows! my favorite line was when you said the show goes til “late-o’clock” i will add that to my list of kina-isms :)

  27. Glenn Says:

    The Phoenix airport… Skyharbor, my Mom and younger brother live in Tucson so I know the place well. Your innovation & commitment is cool, vlogging on the run … kinda adds more reality doesn’t it.

    and the puppies say ‘woof … woof’ to you and and everyone here. They are growing so fast, I think it may be time to take more pictures ;-)

  28. steph Says:

    @nimur
    yeah baggage is not exactly carefully handled that’s why i wouldn’t ever expect kina to check in a guitar… not a smart choice.

    @glenn
    ooh puppies!! :) pictures pictures! oh and i used one of your pictures for my facebook profile… i hope you don’t mind. i’m only trying to exploit it’s amazing cuteness to expand the kination. :)

    oh and how funny is it that after checking the blog comments, i go to my email…only to find a link about miley cyrus’ new cd :) maybe it’s a foreshadowing!…or would it be “a foreshadow”….. neither sounds right. english major anyone?

  29. Glenn Says:

    @steph
    no worries, you are welcome to use the picture in the spirit of spreading the word. I’ll have to search facebook to see if I can find the lit’l ones. :-)

  30. Code2mind Says:

    i just noticed how empty the airport is.. even though on a weekday, i’ll expect more than a couple.. lol

  31. Tanya Says:

    AH SWITCHFOOT!!
    when i started hearing the guitar i was like ‘hey that song sounds familiar’ then you started singing and i was like ‘why do i know the words to this song and yet not know the title of it by now?’ then i was like ‘OHHHH’ and that was my dumb moment of the night. though it is almost 1 o’clock in the morning and i have to get up for work in 5 hours blagh. but yes beautiful rendition, i loved it :)

    p.s. i hate that you have to pay for internet at airports. as much as i’d want to waste my time in between flights surfin the web, i find it disheartening that i have to pay ten dollars. it’s way cool that you recorded everything during the day while you were traveling though! a preview of kina on her cross country tour! lol

    well have a good week and have a great show!!!! :D i wish i could come but sadly im only 19 *tear*

    Tanya

  32. dawnc Says:

A close friend of mine is leaving for UK for 3 years and I’m thinking of writing her a set of lyrics as part of the farewell card, do you know of any songs I could use?( I’ll love to use one of your songs!) hope you’re doing well, love!

    D:)

    PS: Miley cyrus?!! nooooo..

  33. Jeffreyy! Says:

    the office is theee favorite & best show ever haha (:

    goodmorning kina ! have an awesome weekend. (:

  34. Gene Parmesan Says:

    @Misa

    I’m soooo not cool enough to be one of your heroes!

  35. blew Says:

    I had a great realization today, if the grannis sisters combined into a trio, they would be like the female jonas brothers kids, except cooler hahah. they should be called the Grannis Sister’s (what else would they be called).

    Sorry my questions the past couple weeks have been lame. Hopefully this week’s are fun and interesting.

  37. ajsea Says:

    So, I tried to leave a comment days ago, but apparently it didn’t go through…weird. Anyway, another great one. On another note, should I received a street team packet by now?:-)

  38. Mama G Says:

    ajsea… and other street team members: street team packets are still being assembled!!! I SWEAR to you… they’re coming!!
    (stickers: check!
    street team tshirts: check!
    thing in the little envelope: check!
    custom street team mini Coopers: still awaiting arrival!)

  39. steph Says:

    ooh i’ve always wanted a mini cooper!!!!!! :) (my brothers always told me i was stupid for wanting one ):)

  40. cassie Says:

    I love the way how you put so much feeling in those songs (:
    are you a switchfoot fan?
    anyway, how’s the music industry?
    I guess it’s very hard, isn’t it?

    oh! I wanted to ask you something, if that’s ok?
    ‘what’s your fav song you wrote? :) ‘

    I love (reading) your blogs & your music ofcourse!
    btw, when are you going to put a video with your sisters again? :)

    xo

  41. sabafa Says:

    Oopsies, I’ve just posted this in an old blog,sorry 4 the messup:* Reposted here because of it’s content.

    Just 2 let u know, I’ve deleted my http://www.youtube.com/sabafa32ndRstr250608 account and am not planning on opening a new one. I intensely dislike attempts to control me, so as I had sufficient control to not put up with it, I put a stop to my input!

    There are possibly bigger issues besides the following one, but fancy them thinking they could get away with stopping me from watching the end of a Tom & Jerry cartoon over and over and expect me to stay as part of the community! At that level of censoring, I shudder to think what they would do if I start to watch your videos again and again like I used to!

    They are cool though in letting someone go, unlike some sites that do their utmost to ignore your requests to close your account, or worse ones that do ignore and actively stop you stripping out your stuff or to close your account, or even worse ones that keep your stuff and allow you to close your account but without allowing you to remove all your stuff!

    @ kina

    I hope the revelation that your Mom is a Sculptress doesn’t mean that there is another ’starving artist’ in the family;) but, seriously, it’s so good to hear/see the support you all give each other<that3 I fear that it’s a much needed commodity for many these days!

  42. Misa Says:

    What countries have you visited?
    Japan, Mexico, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Morocco

    How many states have you traveled? (Care to list them?)
    23: California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia

    What is your longest period of time without seeing any immediate family members?
    I don’t remember exactly, but probably 6-9 months max. Someone usually ends up stopping by eventually.

    What is the furthest distance you have driven in one day?
    Would have been one of the legs of our road trip (Kina and me). Probably a stretch through the midwest to get it over with. NO NO it was probably when we started at the Grand Canyon at 4am, drove up through Zion in Utah, drove through Vegas, got stuck on the highway and ended up driving straight through to CA. At least, that *felt* like the longest leg since we got into CA around 2am.

    What is your favorite mode of transportation?
    Catamaran!

    @Gene: are too!

  43. aeglos Says:

    @Misa: You’ve never been to Canada?

  44. Dr G Says:

    What countries have you visited?

    Mexico, Canada, New Zealand

    How many states have you traveled? (Care to list them?)

    39 total. All states other than Alaska, North Dakota, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, Alabama, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia.

    What is your longest period of time without seeing any immediate family members?

    1 year.

    What is the furthest distance you have driven in one day?

    I once drove from Stowe, Vermont, through NYC, to Southern California in 54 hours. In 24 hours, I drove almost 1600 miles.

    What is your favorite mode of transportation?

    Plane, or free diving under the water (without air tanks).

  45. Misa Says:

    Nope, no Canada. Unless you count once a looooooooong time ago when I went to Niagara Falls on the Canadian side of the border.

  46. Misa Says:

    It was pretty common in school for people to take trips up to Montreal, but I never went.

  47. wwar1ace Says:

    @Russ… I just got back from a 2500+ mile roadtrip… and did my best to eradicate the little pests.

    (those are ALL mosquitos, not dirt/mud).

    I like the way the pattern makes you feel like you’re jumping to hyperspace. :-P

  48. wwar1ace Says:

    @Misa… It may sound strange, but a coach of mine once got me hooked on eating PBJ with trail-mix in the middle…

    gotta be the kind with the plain chocolate M&M’s in it though.

    @nimur…. I think it was the peanut butter and BACON that got “The King”.

    @Mama G… Miss me? ;-)

  49. wwar1ace Says:

    @oovret: Week 13

    What countries have you visited?
    Dominica (East Carribean)… and parts of Los Angeles.

    How many states have you traveled? hmm… eight?

    Hawai’i
    Florida
    Oregon
    Washington
    California
    Nevada
    Utah
    Arizona

    What is your longest period of time without seeing any immediate family members? Maybe 6-9 months

    What is the furthest distance you have driven in one day?

    About 1000-miles in 15 hours, by myself, from Portland to L.A. And 1-hour of that was to stop for food. :-) I fly low.

    What is your favorite mode of transportation?

    Oh, I LOVE to drive… although, if I ever got to fly a plane I might have to amend that answer.

  50. Graeme Says:

    I LOVE SWITCHFOOT! Sounds AWESOME!!! Keep going strong Kina, you are amazing!
