i feel awkward today!
ahhhh the half marathon this weekend was so fun! i just felt so incredibly happy. especially during the last 7 miles. it was quite strange.
mmmmm. so i make this smoothie thing most mornings and it is sooo yummy! here’s how to make it:
first off– you have to freeze a half a banana and some blueberries in advance.
put into blender:
1. 1/2 cup soy milk (or whatever milk you prefer) my favorite plain soy milk is vita soy or soy dream
2. half a frozen banana
3. between 1/4 cup and 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
4. 1 tablespoon peanut butter (i like crunchy)
5. (optional) 2 teaspoons kinako powder (its a japanese product– basically soy bean flour)
then blend it!
**the most important thing is to eat it in a bowl with a spoon, this way you can pretend it’s ice cream.
mmmm.
ok, i feel so awkward, i have to go!
heart you,
kina
Week 15/17: The XXIX Olympiad
In the following categories what was your favorite event to watch?

** i don’t think i have a favorite, it’s all pretty amazing to me. i really love to watch the reactions of the athletes, their coaches, and their family/friends at the end of the event. so emotional and cool. it’s pretty moving to me.

August 25th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
second!! haha i want video :(
August 25th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Congratulations on your mini marathon! I must say there is something special about finishing. It’s also addictive even if you didn’t like to run before. Don’t sweat the video right away. It will give me more to look forward to in addition to only working a half a day!
August 25th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
NO worries bout the vid.. im still working so .. it’ll be worth the wait when i can watch it in the comfort of my home.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
ahh…. the smoothie!!! i make my own as well.. includes the frozen banana, peanut butter, water, a hand full of ice and whey protein, about 3-4 scoops.. and i just drink it in a glass/cup. good after every workout… Great job on the marathon training.. i love to run but i think the max that i’ll be able to do is about 4-5 miles.. than i’ll prolly just give up.. would love do a marathon though.. someday.
August 25th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
So, uh…how long does it take a video to upload? If I wait, will I be here clicking refresh at 5 in the morning?
Well, I’ll comment in advance, save myself the trouble of doing it twice: Great song choice Kina, but I thought on the 7th measure you went a little sharp. Also, the part where Misa was eaten by a bear was distracting, but when Dr. G joined you for the duet, my little heart went pitter-pat.
Bless
August 25th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
^^ lol…
August 25th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
KINA! I can’t believe you run that much. I’m so happy for you! A lot of people can’t do that. I wish I had the time and endurance. Congrats!!! xox
August 25th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
maybe the bear was just after the giant chocolate chip cookie misa had in her hand
August 25th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
oh and it was a nice touch having mama g and emi riding a tandem bike through the woods
August 25th, 2008 at 9:44 pm

August 25th, 2008 at 10:14 pm

August 25th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Awkward? Like you didn’t sleep well type of awkward?
Another cool song. Just curious…what inspired you to write this song?
Burekuhuesuto ohu chianpion wa biru to chiriosu (cheerios) desu, oishii!!…j/k ;p
You should call your smoothie “Kinutty Soythie”…
August 25th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
bowl smoothie hmm? that must be where you get all that energy to run across the world. i’m in.
enjoy bon iver!
August 26th, 2008 at 12:03 am
Ha, I knew I wasn’t the only one who likes soy milk…..
August 26th, 2008 at 12:13 am

August 26th, 2008 at 12:43 am
haha.. next remix… hmmm who knows. i had a few ideas, but i couldn’t think of which song to do.
maybe Kina should choose. = P
what do you wanna hear?
edit: WOW! Kina, i love your snake. I always wanted one, but I’m not sure if I’m ready for that yet. How do I go about choosing which kind?
August 26th, 2008 at 4:52 am
“I felt incredibly happy during the last 7 miles.”
Somehow that sentence just doesn’t sit right with me. Heh. Brain doesn’t quite parse it.
August 26th, 2008 at 9:24 am
@ misa, you might need a parser, i’d recommend DOM or SAX, but I think you could get away with regular expressions :)
import java.io.*;
import java.io.DataOutputStream;
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.StringReader;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;
import java.io.PrintStream;
import java.util.Scanner;
public class Parser {
private String text= new String();
private boolean bool=true;
private String url= new String();
private String urlText= new String();
public Parser(String txt)
{
this.text=txt;
}
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception
{
do
{
String response = “”;
// Read response from the input stream.
BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader (new InputStreamReader(conn.getInputStream ()));
String temp;
while ((temp = in.readLine()) != null)
{
response += temp + “\n”;
}
temp = null;
in.close ();
System.out.println(”Server response:\n” + response);
for (int i=0; i<text.length(); i++) {
if (text.regionMatches(i,beginning,0,beginning.length())) {
String url=”";
String urlText=”";
i=i+beginning.length();
while (!text.regionMatches(i,end,0,end.length())) {
url=url+text.charAt(i);
i++;
if (text.charAt(i)==’”‘)
i++;
}
i++;
while (!text.regionMatches(i,endURL,0,endURL.length())) {
urlText=urlText+text.charAt(i);
i++;
}
System.out.println(url);
System.out.println(urlText);
System.out.println();
}
else if (text.regionMatches(i,(beginning.toUpperCase()),0,beginning.length())) {
String url=”";
String urlText=”";
i=i+beginning.length();
while (!text.regionMatches(i,end,0,end.length())) {
url=url+text.charAt(i);
i++;
if (text.charAt(i)==’”‘)
i++;
}
i++;
while (!text.regionMatches(i,(endURL.toUpperCase()),0,endURL.length())) {
urlText=urlText+text.charAt(i);
i++;
}
System.out.println(url);
System.out.println(urlText);
System.out.println();
}
}
}
August 26th, 2008 at 9:30 am
argh, i can’t edit my comment, now my code looks all lame and nasty, not to mention the variables are all different. (this is for extracting data from a url, not from user input anyways). The program i originally included this little bit of code in used a SPARQL query too :D :D
August 26th, 2008 at 9:32 am
PS: don’t bother compiling it. i know you’re tempted, but it won’t work because i took out some major portions of the program and left the old variables in… if i have time, i’ll write an updated parser for fun. geeks FTW!
August 26th, 2008 at 9:55 am
Pretty song and pretty snake! Great job with the marathon too!
I wonder if that is the real Shania Twain in your bday shout outs..
August 26th, 2008 at 10:14 am
And… Paid for in Dollar Coins gets the Gold.
How appropriate.
August 26th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
heyyy Kina!
first and foremost, congrats on the half marathon! thats an amazing accomplishment that a lot of people wish they could do! good luck with the rest of your training for the actual marathon! :)
second, amazing song :D just what i needed after my first day of classes here at school
third, i have a lot of respect for people with snakes. why? cuz i myself cannot handle them. they scare the crap out of me, even the little harmless ones such as the one you own :/ but yeah, orange colored with red eyes…haha thats so you :D so bold and so pretty *insert aww here lol*
have a great rest of the week!
Tanya
August 26th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
lol i really want an orange now.. haha
August 26th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
happy to run a 1/2 marathon…? you must be a runner….
not running the disneyland 1/2 marathon this weekend? “happiest place on earth” + running 1/2 marathon = really happy kina?
kinako in a smoothie? interesting.. i’m thinking a handful of honeynut cheerios on top would be good. just like ice cream….

“The Magic” ( 4 U Kina)
I miss the days when all you did was new
Until inspiration bit off more than I could chew
Before I bought your albums, all 3 online
I closed down my guitar goldmine
No longer can I drive with no hands to steer
Just like I’m pretending that you’re my peer
Imagination never hurt, but it feels too strong
Too strong to ignore with each new song
And the distance only adds to fanatical frustration
The ghost of a train on an empty station
Even running from the piano to watch the latest post
My own satisfaction is what I miss the most
The orange dried before I felt the taste
And now I’m worried all creations go to waste
Cuz you have something beautiful, and I’ll still spread your name
But the magic I felt won’t ever be the same
August 27th, 2008 at 4:19 am
Hey Kina :)
Thank you for the t-shirt, i just received it today ;)
So beautiful - the grey one.
I’ll put it on every day ;)
Nice song this week and crazy special guest “snake”.
:D i’m affraid of these animals but yours looked quite nice ;)
Good job with the marathon :p i couldn’t do it.
Have a nice day.
And many grettings and kisses from Germany.

@Kina
Are you a visual artist too?
August 27th, 2008 at 7:08 am
@jmesteban–
Hahahaha. You’re awesome.
@Kina–that’s random, but J-P says thanks for the shout out :)
And to whoever asked about Shania Twain, I would assume it’s her (my aunt used to be good friends with her), but I have no idea why she’d be getting a shout out. :)
August 27th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
@Misa
Wow, that’s crazy! Have you ever met her(Shania Twain)?
August 27th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
@nimur…
It could make her “More than Happy”…. that can get you locked up.
August 27th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
thank you so much for the bday shoutout kina! that was the best birthday present ever! thank u thank u! :) it truly made my day.. you are so awesome.. well done on your marathon :) rock on!
August 28th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Wow Kina, I really really like “No Matter”. Didn’t get a great first impression from it for some reason…but now it’s become one of my Kina favs & I can’t stop playing it. I love how you go from singing low to high notes so gracefully and how you combine such simple chord progressions into an incredible song. This one HAS to make your next release.
Which will be recorded in it’s entirety when? And released by whom? (Interscope? You independently?) Still don’t understand why Interscope appears to be dragging it’s feet with you, but then again I’m not privy to what’s really going on with them. Anyway, I love this new song and can’t wait to hear more!
August 28th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
@maryanne–
Nope, sadly not :)
August 29th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
@maryanne: Actually, I was best friends and her movement coach (it’s in one of her unofficial biographies) years ago right before she got huge when she was Eilleen Twain. Kina’s probably being kind and all inclusive about bdays in general…
August 29th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
I forgot to mention, I’m Kina’s aunt…
August 29th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
perchance are you the famous arleen sugano?
August 30th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Love reading your blogs.
Love your music.
=) *hug*
August 30th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
@all
I haven’t been able to get back into my sony myplay site after I fluked getting in last time, so have been struggling to use this old clevver site and I came across this video tonight that I thought you all should know about for the sake of safety:-
http://www.clevver.com/videof/217022/irish282–waning-about-hate-groups.php
@KINA
Your ‘No Matter’ lyrics encouraged me to struggle on picking up the pieces a bit more, although after 2 years of it, I admit that it’s kinda hard not to let my head dip a bit lately, as it’s relentlessly, soul destroyingly, tiresome which, of course, does undermime the desire to continue with what is in effect an untenable situation, but perhaps it isn’t going to stay the way it’s been ay! Twas cute seeing Bert getting in on the act again, if you like, you could check out what my over amorous snail got up to next, although maybe you won’t, as just the mention of it was deleted from your you tube comment area at the time (lol/still don’t understand why) but here’s the link to the worst picture only, as the site was messing me about that much (probably my computer really) that I didn’t leave the others with them:-

I’m going to have a laugh at:-

while it lasts;)
August 30th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
@kina
Did you get to keep that SG style guitar that had your name on it in the buckle rash area? Plus, I still haven’t heard anything about the one that looked like it might be a Les Paul type in another of your videos, is it too good to mention?
August 30th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
@Sabafa: Kina got a personalized electric guitar from Doritos, and I think the guitar you’re identifying as a Les Paul belongs to David Choi (I believe she recorded a blog at his house once)… but I could be wrong.
August 30th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
@ mama g, nice avatar. dr. g using your computer again? ;)

That was so cute!
September 4th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
I don’t know why, but it took me many a plays for this song to really grow on me. I find myself randomly singing this song throughout my day. I just got done listening to it once again, and the way your voice effortlessly goes into a falsetto, continues to blow me away.
I agree on the hotness that is the weather but drinking homemade ice cold cantaloupe juice made it better. Yay fruits.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
smoothies in this california heat are awesome! i tried your smoothie but didn’t have blueberries - i’ll have to add them next time. :) but delicious with the pb.
great new songs kina - looking forwarding to hearing more.
