oovret: Week 21
What toppings do you like on your pizza?
hmmm… i’m pretty open to most toppings… though i’m very fond of veggies. ooh! best pizza ever– little place in venice beach on abbot kinney– don’t remember what it’s called, but the salad pizza… you will die.
How many times have you seen David Choi smile?
i would estimate about 500. :)
What is your average daily caloric intake?
haha. i really have no idea. i used to track this sort of thing for fun but lately i just eat and run and eat and don’t think about it too much.
What was your favorite meal that you cooked this week? hmmmm… i don’t know if it’s a MEAL, but i cooked it and it’s awesome and it’s sesame spinach tofu salad. how to make–
steam a LOT of baby spinach leaves (in the microwave works). cut it up once steamed to smaller pieces. add about a teaspoon of sesame oil, a table spoon of shoyu (soy sauce), and some dashi (japanese fish stock). then add in a block of tofu and squish it all together with your hands. drain out the excess liquid. i know this sounds (and looks) gross, but it is SO delicious. MMM!
Did you play the guitar for at least an hour everyday this week?
OOH! sneaky you… checking up on me. i actually did!! yay! it helped that was preparing for a big show… but still. gotta keep it up :)
@code2mind and blew

very beautiful song, very relaxing at 1:13AM after a long day/night.
Also, good job on the show. I enjoyed what I saw on Stickam. Strong Enough with a full band sounds great! It was definitely cool talking to everyone. And we’re way past your goal! So glad you did all this.
I just got word that I’ll be hittin up both the bay and LA again for a small mini-tour and video shoot from Nov 13-17. I know it’s a while from now, but hope you got something going on! = )

First off, great show last night! My friend was completely blown away by your awesomeness. And congratulations on being able to raise so much money!
A Sukiyaki cover?!?! Haha, I haven’t heard Sukiyaki in a long time.
To the others that were there: where were all of you?! I was the one in the bowtie, haha.
And finally: Thank you Kina for your little surprise! Haha, I never expected it. You never cease to amaze me :).
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:27 pm

September 22nd, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Ahh, Kina! I’m not quite sure why I yelled. Anyway, beautiful song. Over here in the midwest it’s almost 1:30am and your video was a great way to end a long and tiresome day. I always look forward to Mondays. They make me smile. :)
Have a great week!
September 22nd, 2008 at 11:19 pm
kawaii desu ne… loved it… a good ending to my monday. promise on the next show, i’ll introduce myself :). until next monday… stay lovely.
September 22nd, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Okay Code2mind… what’s your story? Were you using a Japanese translator or do you speak Japanese? And as long as I’m prying, what’s your ethnicity?
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:08 am
I did not understood a bit from this song, but i think i could be in every possible language and it would still sound cool !!
I just realized that every Monday are new songs ? If so then for the first time in my life i have a reason to woke up on Monday. please correct me if I’m wrong !
All the best to all of you !
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:18 am
Learn something new every day. I was like, “I swear I’ve heard this song before.” I didn’t know there was a Japanese version of the song, and that the one I heard was a cover/remake.
I’ve heard 4PM’s version of Sukiyaki. Haha!

90s music… so nostalgic!
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:27 am
matte mashita! —> ‘Ue Wo Muite Arukou’
i’ve been waiting for you to do this song!
The original is beautiful, a classic, and i’m VERY happy that you did the original Japanese version than the English covers.
Thank you again for a wonderful end to my monday.
Good luck and gambatte on your running!
ps. for anyone interested, here’s the japanese original that came out half a century ago, by Kyu Sakamoto.

Hey Kina & Folks-
Great show! nice to see the grannis clan there on stickam. Mama G is da kine! Shaka! Kina, sukiyaki was one of my favorite songs and to hear the japanese version (acoustically) was too much! great job! i know i said i was shipping the pack last week, but this i’ll be shipping it for sure! check out the p.o. box!
once again, props to glenn for setting up the stickam and doing all the legwork for those of us who couldn’t make the drive down.
-k
September 23rd, 2008 at 2:49 am
gah! i hate typos…i meant this (week) i’ll be shipping the package for sure. forgive the typo, i couldn’t edit the comment more than once i guess :-/
September 23rd, 2008 at 2:52 am
@ Tiarenar
Re your p.s. question, Kina just did a smidgen of not keeping strict time in this video, but it’s seriously good to listen to all the same and sounds way cool if you play 2 of it just ever so slightly out of sync, so that it sounds like you are hearing it within a stadium;)
September 23rd, 2008 at 3:53 am
thanks for the birthday shoutout kina! =D
now if i could only find out how my name got on that list…
September 23rd, 2008 at 5:12 am
loool
@ Anonymous
i didnt mean that Kina made mistakes in timing! i just meant that u lose track of what the time actually is, e.g 9 AM
lol i didnt notice any mistakes in timing, thats not what i meant
September 23rd, 2008 at 6:09 am
hey Kina, i’ve only JUST stumbled across your music after having seen the song you and David put together. i’m really loving what i hear! i hope you will get a chance to play in Australia soon! be sure to fill me in when you do :)
you’ve really reminded me to start putting my uke & spanish guitar to better use, as opposed to gathering dust in my room haha thanks for that. much love, xx.
September 23rd, 2008 at 7:14 am
Totally off topic, by the way, if you’re planning on watching The Office premiere on Thursday, pay special attention to the commercials! An unnamed original blogger (7th from the top actually!) is featured!!!! I know a lot of your online votes helped him get the spot! And if you weren’t planning on watching it, you should.
September 23rd, 2008 at 7:21 am
Next show I can go to I will say hello, I feel bad for not. Kina I need your autograph so when you’re huge and famous I can say I got to her before the rest of the world did haha. I should bring something to next show for the whole family, have you guys had Rittersports (I think that is what they are called), they are like a biscuit or cracker with chocolate on top. If you guys havent I shall bring those to the next show as an apology treat. Awesome vido couldn’t understand a word but it sounded so peaceful
September 23rd, 2008 at 7:44 am
You sound lovely, Kina. It seemed that you sang that almost all in your head voice which is getting really strong (that’s more than I can say for myself). And hey, Mama G, even w/your eyes blocked out, you look like Kina’s aunt. hahaha
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:56 am
Wow it’s awesome that you were able to exceed your goal of raising $4k!
I actually thought Misa was going to be the ’special guest’ b/c of the 3 seater bench and maybe b/c she might have taken a b-day vacation from work…:p
Salad pizza? I’m gonna have to try that place out in Venice…is it Neapolitana style?
@emi: Speaking of pizza…are you tired of Woodstock’s “wild bread” yet? I miss Giovanni’s calzone and their ranch dressing…their garlic chicken pizza is pretty good as well… :)
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:18 am
@mama g - i am a mutt as far as ethnicity.. but japanese at heart.. :) i went to school to learn japanese a few years back, but have not kept up with it, i just remember a small portion, and not enough to have a small conversation. :( i’ll need to go back to learn it soon, if i plan on going to school there.
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:41 pm
@blew: Rittersports are totally yummy. You have outstanding taste in cookie/candy!
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:48 pm

i have an interview with the Chicago Sun Times tomorrow LOL
loving the Grannis household
meeeks
September 23rd, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Reuscher may sound fancier, but I would have gladly traded it for something people could pronounce when I was growing up. By the time I got to high school I just gave up correcting people - “sure, it rhymes with Worcestershire, whatever…”
And congrats on exceeding your fund raising goal!
@emceemiko: All set to record it! Funny Mama G called you an unnamed blogger, then the MarketWatch article didn’t mention you by name. Those Tide pens can be used as weapons, right? ;) (I dub thee tide-ninja-miko)
September 23rd, 2008 at 6:18 pm
@mamag and rest of grannis family
This is an official I.O.U. each a rittersport at the next show, If you see a kid with a plastic bag filled with Rittersports they are all yours. Just a heads up for the random kid with a bag filled of delicious candy.
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Kina, the benefit concert was a wonderful idea and an ideal way to raise awareness of the need and funds for cancer research.
Woohoo! on reaching and exceeding the fund raising goal!
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:28 pm
no whistle solo?
???? ???? ??????????????? ?????? ??????????????, ???? ?????? ??????
a little miso and goma would also be good in that spinach salad of yours.
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:32 pm
hmm… can you see the japanese? or is it a bunch of “????”
September 24th, 2008 at 10:42 am
hello!! i love SUKIYAKI(??????????
your Japanese is perfect :) i wish you would come to Japan for concert!!
i want you to sing Japanese songs more :)
September 24th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
another emi! =D
September 26th, 2008 at 10:37 am
I miss your personality.
I mean, hey, you sing beautifully, you are beautiful, you pick/write good songs, and thus I was drawn to seek your music out post-Super Bowl, but I feel like what keeps someone (or at least me) coming back over the long run is ther person, more than the music. And you have a great and likeable personality. I just feel as though I haven’t seen much of it the past few weeks; y’know, the part that makes me think “wow, she’s nifty and funny and human and in another world we could have been friends”
To paraphrase another youtube songstress, there is a finite number of songs you can play, but there are no bounds to how interesting you are :)
(Hopefully the more loyal fans don’t eviscerate me for this)
September 26th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
I may be wrong, but I think Kina feels people that what people want, first and foremost, is the music. Do you mean more expository rambling or that in place of music or what? How would you feel about a reality show about Kina? Would that be too much information? She’s in the process of figuring this all out so nothing’s engraved in stone. If you could shape her videoblogs, what would you want to see? I think she thought she was on the right track, but maybe not. (this should be in the forum probably, but) Tell us: what is it that you want to see/hear??
September 26th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
@Aeglos: Well, it’s difficult for anyone to live up to everyone’s expectations. I think Kina has always been herself, yet she doesn’t have time to please everyone. I think it’s obvious that she has a really busy schedule, but she always manages to put up vlogs and answer her fan-mail. Not many songstresses who do that…PLUS she’s going to be running a marathon and training for that is exhausting…
September 26th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Kina will you ever come to the Island of Guam? I love your music and so does my friend Mazie!
September 26th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
@ Aeglos/MamaG/J.C.
Aeglos has a good point, afterall what fan wouldn’t want more of what they are a fan of, and when Kina gives more to us before/after song intros/outros, she comes across so cute that it’s conceivable that there may be fans of just that without the singing/songs even coming into contention, which of course is almost blasphemy to a musician, but not to an entertainer! I guess I’d quite happily settle for 24/7 worth of what Kina’s showed us so far (bashful blush) if it were humanly possible, so reality show/whatever’s offered would likely be the biggest part of a lifetime short of what would be preferred, but hey unless I’m mistaken, this isn’t heaven and even the most devout of fans can suddenly switch idolatry, so what Kina wants to give and can manage to give us is surely enough to keep everyone happy enough and desperate for more! Ok, make that more than desperate if it gets me a free next CD out or good sound quality videos of the LLS show as I missed spotting the twitter about the stickam feed:(Oyvez/Argh&EvenGnash2):
September 26th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Kina has cousins in New Caledonia. Maybe she will visit them and Guam someday.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
As beautiful as her music is, I feel that the biggest thing that keeps people coming back is the person Kina is, and the way she just sorta dances through life. I agree with Aeglos and I would like to see more of Kina the person as well.
September 26th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
I am so fortunate, and you all must be so jealous, to have been 24/7 with Kina for all of her life. I can tell you that the person she appears to be on the blogs and during performances is the real person she is in life. Imagine how lucky I feel and how neat it is to be her father.
And then, imagine that her two sisters, though entirely different, are equally neat and amazing. Lucky man I am.
I hope all of you can have the fortune I have.
September 26th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
…. and don’t forget about the trophy wife.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:09 am
Dr G and Mama G… you are guys are too funny. It is adorably ironic that this here is the the source of the uniqueness in Kina and her sisters. Your music has made its indelible mark on them.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:42 am
Since I found about Kina, I´ve been eagerly lookíng for more information about her. Difficult to say how much of it is about her music and how much about her personality, they seem so inseparable. And yes, the selfish me would like to see much more of her. But I also know this is just the beginning. She´s going to have a LOT more fans in the future, all wanting a part of her. So, the unselfish part of me hopes that she´s able to set her limits right so she won´t have any regrets later.
My advice to Kina is: do what feels natural to you. As long as you are honest to your true self, we as your fans remain loyal. That´s how you´ve had us it the first place :)
September 27th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
We have cousins in New Caledonia?
September 28th, 2008 at 12:36 am
Yeah… Oji’s mother had family that moved there (like she had moved to Hawaii) and apparently there are Watanabes that are related to us (sorry for having our conversation in public, everybody…. I guess I could pick up the phone and call her but the poor thing is having issues with HER NEW IPHONE!!!!)

oovret: Week 22
New iPhones, new iPods, new iTunes:
So what’s new with your iTunes….
What is your total number of songs, length of time, and memory used?
What are your top 3 most played songs?
What is the longest song in your library?
How many songs contain the word “love” in their title?
How many songs contain the word “heart” in their title?
@Everyone- This is a good one for you to join in on the forum, eh?
@Mama G- Thank you for your encouragement. It has been getting harder to come up with more questions. I will do my best to continue to ask trivial yet interesting questions.
@Kina- Be prepared, any time I can’t think of a good last question, I’ll be checking to see if you’ve been playing those lovely guitars of yours.
September 28th, 2008 at 2:43 am
Uh Oh! David Choi forgot not to smile (v=xV5q8-S7mS4 at 3.50ish) but maybe it could be explained away as just the result of an escaping, under intense pressure, hawk! ; )
&
@ oovret
Whose songs with the word ‘love’ in their title, have I missed out on one of Kina’s originals?
September 29th, 2008 at 6:12 am
Hey, don’t publicize the iPhone bit. What if I return it?
September 29th, 2008 at 7:17 am
Okay… I retract that. Misa does NOT have an iphone.
October 4th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
lol misa
