i did it!
and i have the walk to prove it!
in short:
the marathon was an amazing experience, but i’m making next week’s blog about that.
sorry for this week’s shout outs, i was short on time, and shorter on energy.
zzzzz…….
oovret: Week 25
Are you usually able to carry on a conversation while running?
generally, unless it’s a hill or speed workout. then the athletically-induced asthma kicks in and i turn wheezy :(
Did you have a special pre-marathon diet?
lots of food!
How much further do you think you could have run?
about negative one mile.
Would you consider participating in a triathlon?
consider, yes, but something about the swim cap and getting on a bike when wet stresses me out.
What kind of running shoes did you wear?
Brooks

October 21st, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Congrats on the marathon!
There should be an entire bloopers video one day.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:41 pm
On a side note, it looks as though KG’s been in the South Pacific, while her sisters are locked away in their towers. Get some sun lately?
;-)
October 21st, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Cool video, it’s great to see all of the Grannis sisters collaborate, quite endearing. :-) What are the names of the songs you sang?
Lol, when I read oovert’s last question I read “what kind of bunny shows did you wear?” … that’s what happen when I have a late lunch.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:59 pm
“what kind of bunny shows did you wear?”
Tiny Toons.
hands down best bunny show ever
“elelator go down the hooooollleee”
October 21st, 2008 at 2:09 pm

great video, guys! it’s nice to see all three of you together again. and i can’t tell you how much i LOVE the outtakes and jam session. you guys have so much fun together. it would be fun to just sit in on it one time. lol you guys rock!
October 21st, 2008 at 2:43 pm
You guys are silly:)
October 21st, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Woo 4 hours 15 is a great time Kina - super well done!
I’m guessing recording that video must’ve been great fun. Don’t think I’d be able to achieve that without laughing myself to bits let alone making it all the way through an entire song :-).
@gene - it is a shame about that woman but the winner is always the first past the post - I can’t think of any race that would declare a winner based on their “elapsed time” unless it was a time trial or a handicap race of some sort. Sadly, she might have been able to enter as an elite if her previous best must be about 3:07 - the woman’s elite qualifying time for the London marathon is sub 3:15.
@elevated thought - was just talking to one of our club members tonight who ran the Amsterdam marathon on Sunday. He was thinking that might be his 44th marathon and all at the young age of 78. So, I think you may have some time ;-).
October 21st, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Fun. I played one time with one of my brothers when I first started playing. So it was a beginner and an at the time Capitol Records artist. He launched into the intro to “Hot Rod Lincoln”, stopped and said “Can you do that yet?”. I come from a smart-mouthed family, as you might guess.
October 21st, 2008 at 3:51 pm
emi!
October 21st, 2008 at 4:21 pm
@arch: haha… my kids always used to say ““bunny go down the hooooollleee”
October 21st, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Wow….a good looking, fun loving and very talented family!!! I love this video!
Conratulations on the successful run Kina!
October 21st, 2008 at 4:45 pm
I think this is my favorite video yet. You three are endlessly entertaining.
:)
Oh and I love the incorporation of the uke and the violin.
P.S. I was sending all my good vibes for the marathon. Though I was waiting in a line the whole day so I couldn’t do much else…
October 21st, 2008 at 5:39 pm
ahh!! i had so much fun watching this!!
a concert and a chill sesh with the grannis sisters!! what could be more rad?
October 21st, 2008 at 6:55 pm
@wwwar1ace–
Yeah…when you work in the NE and it’s dark when you enter your building and dark when you leave it, this is what happens. Sigh. Plus Kina’s been running a ton outdoors. When I played water polo in an outdoor pool every day for four years straight I was very, very tan.
October 21st, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Congrats on the run kinaa!
Aww that was so good. Great job ladies! I used to jam with two of my brothers but…. we never sound that good :( hehe.
October 21st, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Hahaha. I think the vlogs get better and better each week! You guys are very talented :).
Kina, so you got the G-walk goin’ on…OG….j/k
October 21st, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Congrats on the run, Kina! Video was awesome! BSB was out of left field a little, but that made it all the more exciting.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:22 pm
:)
Great great video. The kind I could watch over and over again. As I say, the relationship dynamic is just fun to watch between the three of you. And the music, as always, is lovely. I’m pretty sure any video you do with other Grannises is guaranteed to be an above average one, in my book.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:34 pm
hey u agree with J.C… better and better every week.. haha i was like HEY THATS BACKSTREET BOYS!! when u were just doin random things haha
October 21st, 2008 at 10:44 pm

October 22nd, 2008 at 7:20 am

Lots of love from Austin! :)
October 22nd, 2008 at 7:28 am
Nails?
October 22nd, 2008 at 10:21 am
wooo thanks for the shoutout (: me right?!
i like how you rock out. totally rockstar… haha.
i loved all the songzzz. super talented, this makes me wish i had great musician singer siblingS to play with -_-
October 22nd, 2008 at 10:38 am
incredible…i’m too lazy or old to think about running…
October 22nd, 2008 at 11:03 am
That 1st past the post stuff stinks as Elites had a 20mins head start and elapsed time should be the deciding factor or it’s not worth calling it a race especially as Elixers(lol) are less likely to be bogged down by others in their efforts to get to the line, so that’s another time bonus for them to beat off those faster non elite runners that are technically in a different race - that fastest time, non winner lady just could have been Kina or might be in the future, so if she’s technically in a different race then, she should be declared the winner of that technically different race! Excellence should be heralded and rewarded for being so and not snubbed by officialdom!
October 22nd, 2008 at 11:07 am
kina is the cutest sister!
October 22nd, 2008 at 12:40 pm
@Dave :(
October 22nd, 2008 at 12:41 pm
I didn’t mean to be anonymous
October 22nd, 2008 at 12:50 pm
@Mama G
haha that was me and my brother too
we loved coming home from school and watching tiny toons then animaniacs
October 22nd, 2008 at 1:05 pm
good times, good times…. :)
btw it was great meeting you last weekend!
October 22nd, 2008 at 1:34 pm
@Misa… H2O polo was a big thing where I came from. Girls AND boys frequently took State… Wow, your mention got me to Google it, looks like in 2007 their girls and boys teams both just took state for the 3rd time in a row. Still going strong.
:-P
October 22nd, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Forgive my geeky moment, but the names of the songs have been bugging me. You guys sing them so well too :-)… so I hope you don’t mind that I did some minor research
“Why Should the Fire Die” - Nickel Creek
“MmmBop” - Hanson
“Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen” - traditional made famous by The Andrew Sisters
“Gonna Get Along Without You Now” - various, original artist I find is Teresa Brewer… the Grannis version, however, sounds unique as I cannot find the lyrics they use, making it truly their own.
“As Long as You Love Me” - Backstreet Boys
“Anthony” - Nickel Creek
“My Heart Will Go On” - Celine Dion
After all this I looked into Nickel Creek and they have a wonderful repertoire. This is one of the reasons I love Kina and company, they introduce me to music I probably would not ever get around to listen to.
October 22nd, 2008 at 4:03 pm
@Humanity - the elite women start before the massed start at most marathons so that the elite women can’t use male pacemakers. If it’s a mixed mens/womens race then I don’t think that race counts as a “proper” IAAF sanctioned race for records purposes etc. for the women. As part of the IAAF rules, the winner is always “gun to tape” - if you are held up in traffic that’s just bad luck.
@Glenn - tis a good point. There’s a few artists I need to add to my “to check out” list.
Well night all. Hope the legs (and probably everything else :-) are feeling better tomorrow Kina!
October 22nd, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Misa I love your glasses…it’s awesome that the whole family is so musically talented. Fantastico!
Hola Kina.
:))
October 22nd, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Hey-oooo. I don’t think I’ve ever had a blogged b-day shout-out before! Thanks. Texas misses you : )
October 23rd, 2008 at 12:36 am
whoa, um 49th post… i’m really slacking. that was so pretty, i’ve listened over and over. thanks for sharing the bonus footage :) well chosen and very nicely done.
nickel creek was so unexpected, they’ve played portland many times. @glenn, i appreciate the geekout.
yay for sisters!
October 23rd, 2008 at 3:31 am
I guess that means I get post 50!
You know, I thought Disturbia was going to be your Halloween song, but then I heard you cover the Backstreet Boys. Pure evil. ;)
October 23rd, 2008 at 4:14 am
51’s ok :]
what could be better than jamming with your sisters, looks like you guys had fun! i loveee improvising with my friends.
Your nickel creek video was beautiful!
and congratulations on your walk!
October 23rd, 2008 at 6:40 am
“Why Should the Fire Die” - Nickel Creek — I love them soooo much
“MmmBop” - Hanson — I love them soooo much too (I was going to marry Taylor)
“Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen” - traditional made famous by The Andrew Sisters — my mom is big on wanting us to sing Andrews Sisters songs even though they’re freaking hard
“Gonna Get Along Without You Now” — One of the songs my grandmother and her sister like to sing (along with “Pearly Shells” and some others)
“As Long as You Love Me” - Backstreet Boys — I was, and am, a big boy-band fan
“Anthony” - Nickel Creek — Already said it (but my favorite songs off the album are Eveline and Best Of Luck, those harmonies are awesome!)
“My Heart Will Go On” - Celine Dion — This is kind of a joke. A long time ago on a family trip to Hawaii one of my cousins wanted us to put on a show for the family, so we sang this song, that BSB song, and “525,600 minutes” from RENT, and after about fifty billion rehearsals none of us ever wanted to hear that song again (MHWGO)
@lizzyvaz–thanks! :)
October 23rd, 2008 at 8:55 am
…Right, because the rest of the world _didn’t_ hear “my heart will go on” fifty billion times and get incredibly sick of it at the time :)
Oh, and Kina, I meant to say: this weeks birthdays/shoutouts made me laugh out loud. Well done. The “I ran 26.2 miles yesterday and I am tired and am therefore putting as little effort as possible into these shoutouts” vibe is an amusing one, and a new one. If you ran 26.2 miles every week the vibe might get old, but for now, I approve. Heartily. Me hearty.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:55 am
Nike ended up changing it’s mind and calling the lady with the fastest time a winner anyway:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/22/BACI13MAIT.DTL
October 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 am
That’s excellent.
October 23rd, 2008 at 12:34 pm
But not “The” winner, just “a” winner unfortunately, but still better than nothing I’d suppose.
October 23rd, 2008 at 3:40 pm
@Gene
I enjoyed reading this bit best of all:-
“O’Connell said the Nike representative also said that the sports shoe corporation had also decided to eliminate the “elite” category in the annual San Francisco event and would let everyone start at the same time.”
Thanks for posting the link, if they do this and Kina wins, there will be no sour grapes to be had (but maybe only because she’ll have eaten them all, haha!) no seriously, a fair race has got to be the way to go for good publicity for Nike and the City.
October 23rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm
yes, you did it.
finally we get to hear misa play the violin… not bad under those conditions.
and emi playing the uke and not just a shaker, although it was a little hard to hear.
low harmonies rule. it completes the sound… makes it whole.
athletically induced asthma stinks, i couldn’t go 5min without tightening up. it was weird when i finally grew out of it(mostly)… “i’m out of breath…?!?! i usually cant breathe before i lose my breath…”
October 25th, 2008 at 6:17 am
YAY I finally joined the kina blog community LOL. Congrats on running the marathon Kina! that’s quite an achievement..
Apparently singers have good lung capacities, but I have yet to see any actual evidence for that fact because I can barely make it up the stairs without having mini-heart attacks bahaha
ps. I love when you guys get together! you and your sisters are beautiful and have beautiful voices.. and I totally dig the way you rock out HAHA =D I have a similar and far more spastic way of doing that, so yours was refreshing to see =P
October 25th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
‘grats on the marathon. :) i looked up your time and i’m really impressed with your pace.. you ran faster than katie holmes did at the NY marathon (in case you were wondering). hope you’ve recovered. i ordered the 2 cds that i didn’t have from itunes + a shirt, so i’m waiting on those in the happiest of manners. have a good week :]
October 26th, 2008 at 2:15 am
oovret: Week 26(.2) Marathon Week… again.
How many hours of sleep did you get the night before the marathon?
Approximately how many liters of fluid did you consume right before, during, and immediately after the marathon?
Will you be running with Team in Training again?
Would you consider playing a song marathon?
How long did it take for you to walk normally again?
October 26th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Bonus question :)
Running became your weekly routine in the past few months. Did you run this sunday? ;) How far?
If not, did you miss it?
November 5th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
wow. wow.
um, wow?
I love, love, *love* it when the three of you sing together… please do more!
November 9th, 2008 at 1:29 am
I love Love LOVE it when you all sing together — there’s really something special about the three of you together…
