Happy “Valentine”… Day?

i am currently excited beyond belief. i can’t believe that after years of planning for this… it’s actually happening. well, almost.

album update

Stairwells is now available for pre-order here.

all pre-orders will be signed by me, and upon placing your order you will receive a free download of my bonus track “Make Me.”

after two years in the making, i am incredibly happy to announce the upcoming release of my first full-length album, Stairwells, on February 23rd, 2010. Stairwells will be available in physical form through my website, and digitally through iTunes (US and internationally), Amazon, and several other digital vendors.

free single!
i am giving away my single “Valentine” for free on my website as well! go download your copy now and spread it far and wide :) just in time for a little Valentine’s day gift, too!
download Valentine here.

“Valentine” Official Music Video

it’s now been 3 super bowls since my last proper music video! i shot this one last week with a very talented director named Ross Ching. it’s amazing what can be done with 760 empty dvd cases and a LOT of patience.

check out Ross’ stuff here:

Stairwells Release Party!

for those in the LA area, the cd release party will be held on Saturday, February 27th from 7-9pm at the Dakota Lounge in Santa Monica. there are limited spots available to the public so arrive early if you want to be a part of the celebration, we’ll be taking people first come first serve after my RSVPed guests have checked in! there will be mingling, hors d’oeuvres, treats, and music, of course. it’s 18+ and $15 at the door.

much much love to all of you for supporting my music, if even in the teeniest of ways. you all made this possible and i am endlessly grateful for that.

oovret: Week 73

Have you sung “Singin’ in the Rain”, in the rain?
just that line, yes :)
Are you working on another Valentine’s Day song?
not this year. was a little busy working on the same one :)
Since your Superbowl appearance, have you been offered to appear in any other advertisements?
only silly things
Did you enjoy any of this year’s Superbowl commercials?
i spent all yesterday in front of my computer! i’ll definitely watch the ads sometime this week.
Do you feel obligated to eat Doritos during every Superbowl?
how about any time i walk by them in a store?? ;)

music is transparent too

this is a video i shot with my lovely sisters misa (left) and emi (…behind?) this summer when we stayed in lake tahoe for a week. always so fun to sing with them :) and i love this song by k’s choice.

i had another video in the works for today but it’s not quite ready. it’ll definitely be up sometime soon. it’s an exciting one!

album update
after MUCH back and forth with the manufacturer, i think we are finally going to press!! for a moment there i was worried they weren’t going to be printed in time. but it’s all good to go now :)

i’m kicking into gear now as there is LESS than a month before Stairwells is released! i need to do what i can to get the word out far and wide. possibly some exciting things coming up…

well, i don’t want to give away too much for now. i’ll be posting again soon. i think i might start posting more vlog-like videos so i can really keep you all in the loop!

all for now!

oovret: Week 72

What do you feel was your greatest accomplishment of 2009, not related to music or your career?

oh boy, we’re getting deep here. there are a lot of things… i can’t say there was one greatest accomplishment though.
Were you able to keep your resolutions from the past year?

i think i made a resolution to play guitar everyday… *fail* :(
Do you know any New Year songs?
i don’t think so!
Did you enjoy watching The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien?
yes, the last one made me cry!
Do you ever think about what the world would be like if you didn’t exist?
i haven’t… how about what i’d be like without the world!?

the Troubadour SOLD OUT!!

what an awesome night. here’s a bit of me gushing about it :) 500+ people… jeez.

white christmas

i’ve actually never had a white christmas! maybe someday…

family time in the grannis household is a warm and happy time. as you can see, it is also a strange and bizarre time. but it is a good time.

let me also point out that it’s currently 4am, and i’ve been going to bed around 1am lately, so my brain is a little crazy and doesn’t remember how to function. if whatever i’m writing sounds awkward, it’s because i’m only half awake.

album update

the album art is ALMOST finished. the website is ALMOST finished. things are about to get crazy!!

upcoming show!

oovret: Week 71

Have you roasted chestnuts on an open fire?
no! but i do love me some roasted chestnuts.
What would you do with a partridge in a pear tree?
teach it tricks. cuddle. set it free.
What was the last gift you received from Santa Claus?
i believe he gifted the family DDR a few years back…
What Christmas songs do you enjoy singing?
many :)
Have your parents sold your bed?
no, but they have reverted it back to a rickety bunk bed which makes me feel either slightly claustrophobic if i’m on the bottom, or slightly like i might die in my sleep if i’m on top. they’ve also put two exercise machines in my room… pretty intense. but i’d rather them exercise and be healthy than my room feel cozy.

re: merch orders…

due to many requests, i will be pushing my last day of sending out merch orders myself until next wed, dec 16th! i just can’t let it go!

if you would like your cd or shirt signed, make sure to write a request in the “additional instructions” on your paypal order.

fireflies

hello lovelies.

this week i have my first two rehearsals with my band for the troubadour. fun!! i’ll be playing with keith tutt II on the cello, reade pryor on drums, and jon titterington on keys. don’t all their names make them sound like they’re royalty or something?? i think so. anyway, they are all very talented and i am so excited to play with them all.

recently, i’ve been busy getting in everyone’s merch orders and trying to plan more for the release. now that i’ve committed to a date… i kind of need to make sure things get done. ahh! i’ve been doing some back and forths with my designer too… i should be seeing a mock up for the new website this week!

last week of merch sent by me :(
this friday (dec 11th) i will be passing on my merch packaging and shipping to a company that will do it in a much more timely manner than i. if you want to get a personalized thank you with your order or get a cd or shirt signed, get your order in by friday! if you want something signed, make a note to me in the “additional instructions” section on your paypal order, or immediately send me an email after ordering with your order # and the request! order merch here.

album update

ahhhh! a release date at last!! (i’ll update this later with the info… i don’t want to spoil it for people that want to find out in the video first!)

oovret: Week 70

Who played, for your first visit to The Troubadour?
Bon Iver
What is the best “pickup line” that has been used on you?

haha… hmm, i’m not sure if “best” means “most effective” or “most entertaining”. in either case… i actually can’t remember any!
Does your computer spend more time on or off?
my computer is never off unless it’s having a problem and i restart it. that’s probably not very good for it, huh? poor computer… so overworked…
Do you enjoy listening to “Monsters of Folk”?
i shall check them out right now.
How fast does a turkey trot? Are you faster?
i’m pretty sure i trot faster than a turkey, but that’s not incredibly fast.

half of my heart

big shout out and thank you to perez hilton for sharing my new cover with john mayer this morning on twitter!

in other news, happy thanksgiving everyone!

i just got back from running the dana point turkey trot 5k. it was great! but i find myself in the same condition i am in every year, feeling incredibly ill due to running much harder than i should’ve… ha. i just can’t help it! once i’m in race mode, all those cross country and track memories flood back in and i think i’m in top running shape again. but no. hope my tummy finds some peace before the big dinner tonight!

regarding merch…
just a recap of what i said in the video… after 2 years of processing and shipping all of my merch orders myself, next month i will be passing on this job to a company that handles this sort of thing. it will be a sad thing to see go, because i loved feeling that much more connected with everyone, but in the end it will be good for us all, i will spend more time making music, and people will actually get their orders on time :/

as of around dec 11th the transition will happen, so if you would like a personalized thank you note from me or would like to request a signed cd, do so before the 11th! to request, make a note to me in the “additional instructions” section on your paypal order, or immediately send me an email after ordering with your order # and the request!

other news
so incredibly excited for my show at the Troubadour on Jan 13th!! this will be my first time there and i LOVE the Troubadour. the best part is… all ages! happiness. since it will be my first show there, i want to make it a great one :) the room is a LOT larger than any venue i’ve headlined at in LA, so bring friends! let’s fill it up!

album update

i’ll be seeing the first draft of the album art in a few days! can’t wait to see it. also… we’ve picked the first single and … (drum roll please)…. the RELEASE DATE! ahhhh! i’m going to keep both secret for now, but will announce very soon :)

upcoming show!

so, this is going to be a very fun week! i’ll be writing with two amazing musicians– my extremely talented friend daniel bedingfield and the ridiculously fantastic david archuleta. it’s going to be great! really hoping we come up with some awesome songs for david.

album update:
i finally selected a designer for my album art!! his name is nathan goldman and his work is awesome. check it out here: http://www.dkngstudios.com/ i cannot WAIT to get started with all of this.

also, the album cover photo has been chosen! yayyyy. only took a million awkward pictures to get it, but hey! i also drafted up all of my album credits this weekend. it’s really starting to feel like this is happening :) tomorrow i’ll be sending those off, along with some more photos and all my lyrics, to nathan so he has all the tools he needs to get going with album art. incredibly excited.
